It was Christmas Eve and my sisters and I were exchanging gifts.. My niece at the time was 5 months, so she had given us gifts too. My sister said open up this gift from Ashley.. I didnt think anything of it since the wrapping paper was the same my sisters had used.. Well as I opened up the box, there was another one inside.. I opened it up and I said ' what the hell is this?' as my fiance was getting on his knee.. well I screamed and I began to cry... I was completely shocked and surprised.. I never live that one down, my fiance always tells the story.. and it was caught on video

Re: how did he propose?
i met fh(now dh) for lunch after he got out of work. we went to the diner. he decided then that this would be the perfect day to do it. i had to get my hair done for my cousin's sweet 16. he ddn't want to come to the salon so he went home. i called him when i was on my way home. he heard me open one door. when i opened the 2nd door, i said what are you doing on the floor. i took a second look, he was holding the ring in his hand.

Re: how did he propose?
i was in grad school for speech therapy, and i had to take a big licensing test one saturday morning at my school. now, he lived 2 hours away, so we only saw each other on the weekends, so he said ' i'll just come with you and hang out on campus while you take the test and then i'll take you out to lunch'. so i finish the test, we go out to lunch. then we end up just driving around, going to the mall to walk around, and then it was dinner time. we went out for a nice crabcake dinner ( my fav!!!) after dinner, he insisted we take a ride to ocean city ( NJ, which was near my school)- even though it was january and FREEZING out!!! so we get there, he somehow convinces me to go out on the boardwalk and thats where he asked me to marry him on the beach in january with no one else around.... doesn't get more romantic!!

Re: how did he propose?
Passover 2005 -- My niece Jennifer was not too crazy about the whole Four Questions thing so I told her I would do them with her. We finished reading in Hebrew, and then read the questions in English. After the fourth question. Edward says 'I have a fifth question....Will you marry me?' My brother was face deep in the haggadah and had no clue as he kept reading. There were screams and tears all over. The rest of the seder was a blur and after the matzah ball soup, I promptly threw up.
It was bittersweet because my father had been in the hospital in and out of consciousness with absolutely NO awareness of the world. We went to the hospital to tell him on the off chance that he had a moment of clarity. Dad passed away knowing that I was going to be taken care of - at least I'd like to think so.

Re: how did he propose?
12/21/04 - FH picked me up from the metro station after work. It was my last day in the office before the holidays, so I was sort of frantic and worked a little late. He suggests going out to dinner since we're so busy... I agree. We walk to downtown Bethesda (MD) and stop in a book store. We walk out, the street is lined with trees with white lights... and there is a big christmas tree... i sit down in front of it. we were moving right after the holidays, so he says-- i have really good memories of this place. do you? and i yammer on how I do... then, FH says, I'm going to give you one more good memory, tells me to close my eyes, and then pops the question. we never made it to dinner, but did make it to a cozy bar with a fireplace and had champagne and strawberries. when we went up to ny, FH had arranged for a limo to take my parents and us to a really nice restaurant in my hometown and we asked for their blessing together!

Re: how did he propose?
10/01/05 yes just the other day!
we live in sydney (FH is australian) and went down to a tulip festival in canberra (australia's capital). he had been telling me about this festival for months now b/c tulips are my favourite flower. i knew it would happen soon b/c i picked out the ring, but he told me it wasnt ready yet. i knew where he kept the money for it so i checked and it was still in the envelope (i know i am awful!).
so we are walking around the festival and he starts acting all wierd by this one set. he is smelling them etc. then he brings me to this one flower and i smell it and i am like um ok, thinking in the back of my head, what is he doing? then he brings me to another flower and says look sweetie, look at this one. and my ring was inside. i dont remember much, it all happened so quick, but i do remember thinking oh my god, there are so many people around (i hate crowds etc.). oh and i remember saying yes .

Re: how did he propose?
We were on Vacation in San Diego with his entire family. We were each allowed to pick out one thing for the family to do each night we were there. He picked out a baseball game. From around June up until the night of the game his mother and sister complained every night about having to go...At the top of the fourth inning, on the scoreboard 'Jenn, will you marry me? love Rob' turns out the entire family was in on it, had cameras all over me, and got the entire proposal on our dvd camcorder..so now i have the proposal dvd forever!

Re: how did he propose?
Mine isn't all that romantic, but it's sort of funny. I went on vacation for a month, to Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. When I got back, we started having this huge conversation about 'our' wedding, who to invite, where to have it, how much it would cost, what would be a good date to have it, etc. I mean, seriously, like all the planning you do together AFTER he asks, but all the stuff you think about yourself BEFORE he asks. The conversation went on for at least an hour, when he leans over ands says 'by the way (I kid you not), will you marry me?' I had to ask him the next morning if he was serious.
The ring came a few months later. I knew it was coming. He had gone shopping with my mother for the diamond. I had a company picnic going on, and I was hinting big time that I wanted the ring before that day so I could show it off to the entire company (we have 3 offices). He asked me to meet him for lunch at his office one day (and bring him lunch while I was at it). So, he comes walking out of his office with a green bag (that I instantly recognize as coming from my favorite jeweler). He hands it to me rather calmly and says 'this is for you', so I reach in the bag to find it filled with DVD's. I gave him a weird look, he gave me an even stranger explanation, then proceeds to tell me that Tony (the jeweler) gave him some wrapping paper and a bow, but since I knew what was coming, he didn't bother to wrap it. I reach way down into the bottom of the bag to see a little green box, next to the wrapping paper and the bow. When I grabbed it the lid came off and it was empty!! I called him a **** wise ***, and he reached into his pocket and said 'perhaps you were looking for this?' At which point he popped it open and I lost it (as did he). He slipped it on my finger, and it hasn't come off since.

We went to a Bed and Breakfast at Cape Cod. On our second night there, he wanted to go to a lighthouse. I told him, 'Why do you want to do that'. He said Cape Cod has alot of lighthouses and we should go see at least one. On our way there it started to rain. It was about a 45 minute drive to the one he wanted to go to. As soon as we parked the sun came out. We walked to the lighthouse and he handed me something in a bag. I said what is this and he said open it. (BTW he is an MTA police officer). He gave me a wallet with his mini shield in it and it said Officers Wife. I looked at for a while and when I turned to him, there he was with the ring. I could not believe it. I didn't say anything. In shock I just kept on saying NO! Not meaning No but just meaning I can't believe it. Then I said yes. His hand was shaking so much. Then he took out his video camera and taped me staring at the ring for about 15 minutes. LOL It still feels like a dream and it was only two months ago. When we got back to the Bed and Breakfast he had champagne glasses and a votives all over the room.

We decided to get out of town for the weekend and went to long beach. FH decided to stop at the wine store and get some champagne so we can sit out on the beach, sip champagne and watch the sunset. (We are huge sunset watchers) I was very excited because I was never at the beach during the winter. It was so calm and beautiful.... So anyway, he tells me to pop the bubbly while he lays out a blanket.. It was freezing out and I couldn't get the label unwrapped so I turned to ask him to do it and he was on both knees! It was so sweet!!!

Background: FH and I dated in HS...broke up after graduation and re-connected at our 10 year reunion.

FH and I were driving around Bklyn where we went to and out of nowhere FH says 'let's see if there are any plays going on at FDR'..I thought it was kinda crazy-we live in NYC to want to attend H.S. theater when we can see Broadway shows!!
Anyway...we get there and walk the long way thru campus on this crisp February afternoon. After walking into the campus, and nearing the area that they frequently hung arounnd while students, FH suggested we stop for a second and sit on one of the benches. I was preoccupied looking all around at the changes around campus...I mean I hadn't been there in 13 years. So we sit on a bench, I look over my shoulder at 'something new' and turn around to point it out for FH to see....when I looked at him.....he was no longer sitting next to me on the bench...he was directly in front of me....on one knee. He proposed and I cried so hard....that after about 2 minutes...he said 'is that a yes'. I never even got the word out!!
He told me later that after our first date, he knew he would marry me, and he knew exactly how he'd propose. Such a romantic!

Re: how did he propose?
12/25/04 -
We were just hanging around his place and not doing anything. He said to throw something on because he wanted to go ice skating. I thought it was a good idea, but wanted to stay local (we live in suffolk). Being that we both grew up in the boroughs, he kept insisting that we go into Manhattan.
So we drive out there and then we go to Rockefeller Center. We waited in the freezing cold for about 2 hours on line. When we started to skate we were freezing! After about 20minutes I told him I didn't want to skate anymore. He then said he would do one more lap around and then we can leave. So he went to the other side of the rink and I saw him bump into a stranger. He then turned and started skating to me as fast as he could and then feel really hard on the ice. Everyone turned to look. Then when I reached to help him up, he had the ring in his hand and got on one knee! Everyone just stopped and watched and started clapping and taking our picture.
He faked the fall, and the stranger he bumped into he gave his camera to take pics. Then he surprised me with dinner, and he had front row tickets to the Radio City Christmas Show. It was a great day - all totally by surprise!

Re: how did he propose?
It was Sunday, August 28. He had just gotten home from Atlantic City. He asked me to come into the living room, because he wanted to give me some salt water taffy and he had another gift for me that he didn't give me on my birthday the previous wednesday. He brought out this scrapbook that he made. The first page was a picture of where we met and above it said, 'It had to start somewhere'. The scrapbook was photos of our 4 1/2 years togeather and the last page was a picture of me and a picture of an engagement ring right next to it. The page said, 'Please say I DO'. As I looked up, Jay got on his knee, held the ring up and asked, 'Will you marry me?' I was so excited I started laughing and yelling, Oh my God, is this for real? It was even more perfect than I had ever imagined it being!!!!! It was the perfect proposal, and the most perfect ring, and I have to say that Jay really was the perfect boyfriend and now the perfect fiance!!!!! I am so lucky!!!!!!!!!!!

FH and I enjoy the Opera. We had gone to see a matinee performance of Marriage of Figaro. Because it was VD Weekend, I really did not think we were getting engaged and my engagement radar was totally off. (FH and I just don't celebrate Valentines Day, we just think it's a silly holiday, but that's us). We had plans to go to a friends house for dinner that evening (or so I thought).
After the performance, I went to the ladies room and came out complaining about the lines in ladies rooms, and that my feet were hurting b/c of my shoes. I was just a big Ol complainer that day. Anyway, FH said he wanted to check something out on the balcony, and I kept saying, 'don't we have to be someplace else soon?' He said it would just take a minute. So we went out on the balcony of the Met Opera house overlooking the courtyard and fountain. And because I'm totally obvlious, I didn't even realize he was proprosing, and after he asked if I would marry him, I gave him this blank look and just said, 'ummm..what?, can you say that again?' And then I became hysterical and starting jumping all over him.

Re: how did he propose?
November 25, 2004, Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade
After walking at a rapid pace from Penn Station to our spot on the parade route we realized it was much warmer than we had anticipated and started removing some layers of clothing. We were on a very highly trafficed corner and FH suggested that we move further down to where it was a little less crowded. FH squatted and then stood up again (taking the ring out of his pocket, I was completely oblivious, and thought he was just stretching and relaxing his legs). Before the parade started FH took my hand and said, 'Let's do this now.'
Down on one knee FH said: 'Over the past few months you've made me happier than I've ever been in my whole entire life and I don't want it to end, I want you to be my wife.'
I hugged him tightly and never wanted to let go, and didn't even look at the ring before answering. When he asked, 'Is that a Yes?' I proclaimed 'Yes it's a Yes!' as FH breathed a sigh of releif. We finally released from the hug just long enough to kiss and look at my left hand. I leaned on FH and needed him to hold me up as I was feeling weak-kneed, as he had felt all morning, nervous about my response. I was shaking the whole time and neither of us could stop smiling.

Re: how did he propose?
Ok, so here are some details. I was feeling retched all day, my car wasn't working, and all I wanted to do was go home and take a nap and get to bed early. But Kyle made some plans to go out to dinner with his family at 8 o'clock. So, after work I decided to take a nap. I woke up around 7, and heard Kyle coming and going from the apartment. I asked him what he was doing. And he explained that he was cleaning out his car, etc. Then one time he came back in and asked 'Kim, have you seen Dude? (one of our cats) I think he escaped or something. I can't find him.' So, I was freaking out. Kyle said 'let me check outside a bit. Maybe he got out while I was cleaning the car.' About three minutes later, he comes back in and says, 'Kim, you have to come see where Dude is. Hurry.' So, I sprint up, run out the house with no shoes on, and Kyle leads me down to the art gallery we live upstairs from. I walk inside to this.... Still, no clue what's going on. I figured Megan (the gallery owner) was having an event or something. I was focused on Dude scared and hiding in the corner. I run over to Dude. I endearingly call him a little sh&%, and pick him up. He had a red collar on. Still, no clue what is going on. At this point, I ask Kyle....'why does he have a collar on? Who put this collar on our cat?!' Then I notice the slip of paper rolled up in the collar. That's when it clicked. I open the note and it said
'Dear Mom, please marry Dad. Love, Dude and Sweet Pea.' My messenger
I turn to Kyle, he's holding the ring, and he says how excited he is to spend the rest of his life with me. He asks, I say of course.
And that's when people come out of the woodwork. Mom and Olivia hiding out My shock More shock My future flower girl
