I actually thought my best friend sfor the last 15 years knew. Before I even got engaged, I told her she would be my MOH. 2 months ago, she asked me 'am I your maid of honor?' I was like 'of course.' So, now I feel really bad that I didn't 'officially' ask her in a memorable way! Oh well!!!
My MOH and I love pictures - we always have our cameras with us. Since we're both engaged, I decided to make her an album where she could document both or our wedding planning. My FMIL made the album - she covered an album with a fabric and made a little crosstich with a daisy (my MOH's favorite flower) and she wrote our names also and sewed it on the cover. Then I wrote a two paged letter and put it in the first two pages of the album. It was great - we both cried. My FMIL ended up making me one, too - so I was so excited! We have pics of the bm dresses we tried on and her e-party, her shower, etc.
I wrote cards for my MOH and Bridesmaids with messages about our friendships and then gave them bridesmaid books that I wrapped up for them.

I asked my sister the day we anounced our engagement! She cried... a lot!
i asked my MOH on a night when she picked me and FH up from the airport. i wasn't planning on asking her in the car but FH was poking me from the backseat all excited. whispering ask her , ask her. (he was like a liitle kid) so i did only b/c i thought she heard him. she screamed and almost got us into an accident on the belt parkway! obviously this wouldn't be a good suggestion! lol!
I've been talking about my wedding for over a year (although the engagement wasn't 'official' until a month or so ago) so all my girls knew they would eventually be in my party so when I finally got the ring and the proposal I just asked them. They were excited anyway even they they knew it was coming.
