How did you determine your Wedding Date?

Original post by April_Luv

We originally got married 04/2007 and we just prefer to keep it in the same month. I picked a Sunday because its a whole lot CHEAPER than a Saturday & 2012 will make our 5th wedding Anniversary.....

How did you pick your Month, Date...etc?

My fiancé and I originally wanted to get married on August 14, 2010 because we started dating April 14, 2003 and he asked me to marry him on Aug 14, 2006 so we wanted to keep our lucky number 14. But my fiancé family is coming from Portugal and the best month for them to come is in July and we really wanted them to be there so we made are date for July 17, 2010.

My story is much of the same, we met on August 13, 2000, which happens to be my DH birthday, we were engaged on June 13th (which my DH claims he had no significance of the date when he proposed) and when we went to my hall we knew we wanted to get married in September and the 13th was one of the days they had available, we said, that's our date!

The area code in Brooklyn where I lived the last 8 years was 718. DH proposed in Brooklyn, and we 'courted' (so to speak) there. I knew we'd be moving out of the area, so I figured I'd take a little bit of Brooklyn with me forever...

Seriously, that was a big part of it. The area code. I'm nuts.

That being said, we wanted a Saturday in July. DH refused to do 7/4 because he's born on New Year's and doesn't like sharing his bday with a holiday and wanted our wedding day to be all ours. 7/11 sounded goofy to us since it's '7-11' -- but really, SIL's husband was supposed to be back from Afghanistan for the week of our wedding so we planned around that. His leave got changed to September, so we went to Busch Gardens when he was back in the states. But our wedding date remained 718. Like the area code.

I love your story!

I love winter. I wanted it in either February or March so it wasn't too close to Christmas.

I also really wanted a Saturday wedding so no one would have to worry about getting off from work.

The venue I picked is so pretty during the day with all the natural light so we decided to go with daytime.

We picked 2011 because I will graduate from grad school in December 2010.. 2 months before I get married!

I didn't want a very long engagement since we have been together for almost 4 years and I'm not getting any younger. I wanted to get married in March. This was the only Saturday that my RH had available, plus 6 is my favorite number since I was... you guessed it, 6!

We definitely wanted a Sat night - & when we got engaged (this past Christmas) I still had my teaching job - so the only sensible time to have it was in the summer - we tried to plan for beginning to mid August so we could still take 2 week HM & be back for beginning of school in time. Little did I know then I would be excessed due to budget cuts...but Im still glad we did it when we did!

This date was my grandfather's birthday...I always said when I got married I would choose whichever of my grandparents birthday fell on a saturday. It also happens that we met on the 12th of Oct. 2001 and when you flip that you get 2010

FH and I are both still in school, but he is on a semester system and I am on a quarter system. The only time we really have free is around Christmas and New Years and then the summer. My sister is graduating high school at the end of June 2010 and FH family always gets together for the 4th of July which just happens to be the weekend after my sister graduates. We're living in CA right now so having the wedding on July 3, 2010 I could be there for my sis and then get married the next weekend and spend some time with our family. And we have a lot of OOT guests so it is definitely going to be a fun filled weekend

We're both in academia (i'm in Student Affairs, FH is a professor), so we wanted to have it either on summer or winter break. Turns out January is the cheapest month to get married, and the easiest for our friends to travel!

We originally wanted to get married in the fall but that time of the year was to exspensive and both of us are in school. We then decided to get married in the off season in order to cut costs so that limited us to Jan -March. Feb is my birthday month so that was out. We then wanted a 3 day weekend since we have so many OOT. So our BM actually suggested MLK day.....which we thought about it later is my stepsons birthday...Oh well. We'll have a little suprise for him at the wedding (A QUICK SUPRISE)

It was between our engagement date, March 14th, our 'first date' anniversary August 28th, and something totally random. When we saw that the 10.10.10. date combo was the same year we we're getting marreid we went for it. It gave us more time to save and it's a lil cooler out so we'd be excited to get away for the HM. Plus I'M crazy with number and after researching the number 10 I fell in love with the date even more.

We were adamant about getting married in the early fall and on a Saturday night. But we also had to work around the Jewish Holidays. So, 10/2/10 just worked.

Re: How did you determine your Wedding Date?

We originally wanted a Sunday during a holiday weekend. We preferred Memorial Day Weekend but the RH we wanted was already booked. He gave us a list of dates he had available the only holiday weekends were Martin Luther King Jr. weekend in January, Labor Day weekend and Columbus Day. I did not want to wait until Sept or Oct. So we originally picked Jan but it was later shot down bc of the chance of a snow storm. So we then went with June and the only days RH had in June were father’s day and the day we choose. We did think about father's day and checked with our dad's but decided it wouldn't be good. It worked out though bc FH best friend got engaged a few months after us and they picked Labor Day weekend.

We wanted a Saturday in June and I was just flexible as to the actual date to give me the most options. The date is going to be special no matter what so we just went with the one that worked with our RH.

Orig I wanted to to Nov 21 10(our 9 yr anneversery) but It can be cold in Nov so when our RH said it was the same price in June we jumped for it...

Re: How did you determine your Wedding Date?

We went with whatever the RH had available. There were some rules to picking the date, couldn't be around Easter and had to be on a Saturday.
