How did you determine your Wedding Date?

Original post by April_Luv

We originally got married 04/2007 and we just prefer to keep it in the same month. I picked a Sunday because its a whole lot CHEAPER than a Saturday & 2012 will make our 5th wedding Anniversary.....

How did you pick your Month, Date...etc?

I knew I wanted July or Aug... went to Lands End and took the Sat night they had available that I thought would be best, (by June 24, 2008 they were already down to about 6 days all summer of 2009, including June) which turned out to be Aug 8... turns out it wasn't the best and it was almost a huge disaster, but it worked out in the end.

FH and I are both teachers so we wanted the summer - specifically July. I only wanted a Saturday. So we had 4 choices lol Our dating anniversary is 3-24-05 so we stayed with the 24th for good luck

We definitely wanted a Saturday.

I am a CPA so January through May was out; FH can't get vacation from June through August so that was out.

I have a tax deadline 9/15 and 10/15 so our best bet was November. We could get married, go on our honeymoon and then both be back at work for more deadlines and he for the holiday rush.

I didn't want to be engaged for a long time and FH proposed in Feb.2009. I love the fall, but I didn't think that would be enough time to plan a wedding and a few of m friends had weddings this fall, so we couldn't fit in.

Winter won! And we picked January 23 because it's 1,2,3 and would be easy to remember. ALSO...we were dating for 9 months when we got engaged ans we knew right when we met eachother that we were it forever...... so we said the wedding date it like our relationship...123!

We knew we wanted fall. We thought maybe October but then we looked at the calendar and realized that with the holidays I get off and the holidays FH gets off, we could take a few days off before the wedding AND a 3 week HM and still be back in time for Christmas at home. So that's what we did. We will be celebrating Thanksgiving this year in Maui

I love 11.11 because we always use to make wishes on 11.11 and we wanted a sunday cuz it's cheaper.

originally was going to do Jan/Feb or March/April for cost reasons but was afraid OOT guests would be stuck in snow and it would rain in Spring so we decided on Thursday in the summer. We both work for a school district and would be easier for our guests to do a Thursday since they would have off too(many guests are teachers) and their kids wouldn't have school the next day. WE had a few dates to choose from but i wanted time to get final stuff done after school lets out and still have time for a honeymoon and get adjusted to living together and setting up our yet to be determined place to live. I just liked the sound of July 15th and it looks pretty when written.

We met in Sept 07 and got engaged in July 09. We already did the pre-marriage classes and we didn't want to wait much longer.

I'm a teacher, so I already get a week and a half off for Spring break. It is much cheaper to get married in March than high season (April -Sept). We didn't want to do winter b/c we have some OOT and I was afraid the snow might hurt their traveling.

It is a little hard finding church availability the weekend before Easter weekend (our church has a big Easter play they do, so our church was off limits). We chose Friday b/c we'd get the extra few days off for the weekend built in.

My sister is also having a baby in Dec, so she is having my grandparents come up from Fla for the christening, which will be around the same time. So, I had family stuff to plan around too.

Re: How did you determine your Wedding Date?

The area code in Brooklyn where I lived the last 8 years was 718. DH proposed in Brooklyn, and we 'courted' (so to speak) there. I knew we'd be moving out of the area, so I figured I'd take a little bit of Brooklyn with me forever...

Seriously, that was a big part of it. The area code. I'm nuts.

That being said, we wanted a Saturday in July. DH refused to do 7/4 because he's born on New Year's and doesn't like sharing his bday with a holiday and wanted our wedding day to be all ours. 7/11 sounded goofy to us since it's '7-11' -- but really, SIL's husband was supposed to be back from Afghanistan for the week of our wedding so we planned around that. His leave got changed to September, so we went to Busch Gardens when he was back in the states. But our wedding date remained 718. Like the area code.

Re: How did you determine your Wedding Date?

Originally I wanted a Fall wedding. FH & I agreed we had no desire to get hitched in the summer or winter. It took FOREVER for us to find our RH and they had no more Saturdays in the Fall open so we figured we would opt for a Friday and figured it would be cheaper...no big deal. Well when my step-mom found out that they had July 3rd open she suggested we grab it and make our wedding a holiday weekend celebration....we were cool w/that. To be honest, if you had told me the night I got engaged that I would have my reception in the place I'm having it , on 7/3 & pick the dress that I did, I'd tell you that you were CCCCCRRRRRAAAZZZYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We orginally had 10/10/10, but my brother is in the navy and changes commands usually in summer months - July / August. Depending on his next command, he may have to wait 90 days before taking leave... so instead of having a winter wedding, we chose May 1st which happens to be a great time to visit Hawaii - where we knew we wanted to Honeymoon.

Re: How did you determine your Wedding Date?

Well FH and I got engaged in end of feb and were going to plan for a summer 2010 wedding but then with us being in school in Mexico we decided we had to wait till the winter to give us more time to plan and the holiday vacations are the best time for all of our family and friends...fh's whole fam is coming from PR and my friends from Canada. So we went for Jan. 2nd 2011..it's a cool date 1-2-11 and it's a sunday so we saved some $ there...also FH even though hes puerto rican hates the heat so a winter wedding is perfect! Plus we are making a holiday weekend out of it..most ppl will be up visiting for New Years eve that friday night and they will stay till Sunday for the wedding!

Re: How did you determine your Wedding Date?

So when we got engaged in Feb 2009. I didn't want a long engagement. Would have love a summer wedding but knew we couldn't afford. Since I am teacher I started looking at the dates my vacations fall on. I wanted a Saturday night so our two choices where going for Feb 13th 2010 or March 27th 2010. Feb 13 was booking up quickly.

Really wanted March 27th, but since its the day before Palm Sunday alot of churches I called won't perform a wedding. I found one church that would but they cover all the statutes in purple clothes and I don't know if I could look at all my church pictures and see that purple cloth.

Found a the RH that I loved. The Banquet Manger suggested Dec 26th 2009. Gave us a great price since it was Winter and it was consider a late booking. So Dec 26th it is.

Re: How did you determine your Wedding Date?

Originally FH and I wanted to get married in the summer of 2010 but it was going to be too tough financially on us. Then, we decided to get married in June 2011....BUT then I fell in love with cherry blossoms (before we set our date). I met with my wonderful florist (Designs by Rose) and Rose told me that cherry blossoms wouldn't be possible in June, but they were do-able in May (preferably mid-May). FH is still going to be in grad school in 2011 (hopefully graduating the same month we get married!!)...so we had to wait until his semester would be over to get married. We picked the closest weekend that we could to the middle of May, that didn't conflict with FH's school schedule (we wanted to make sure his semester would be over), to ensure we could have cherry blossoms. We also knew that we wanted to have a Saturday wedding. SO..basically finances, cherry blossoms , and FH's grad school schedule determined our wedding date!

I picked the Sunday Night of Memorial Day because my parents got married the Sunday of Memorial day 35 years before me :)
