How did you pick your DOJ?

There are so many beautiful things out there - what was the deciding factor for you DOJ? Dress style? Personal taste? Did you buy your jewelry after or before your 1st fitting? I need HELP!!! Too many choices...

I couldn't decide at first either. Then another bride posted something she bought and who it was by. I checked out the website and LOVED all the pieces. I saw these pair of earrings and fell in love. Went to the place in person and once i tried them on i knew i wanted them. The bracelet somebody else posted too, once i saw it i just fell in love too and showed dh and he got it for me for wedding. Same with earrings and again he bought the ones i fell in love with.

I'm struggling now with DOJ. I already have the earrings, which were my great grandma's. For the rest of the jewelry, I'm working around the earrings and the dress (for example, my dress includes swarovski crystals and pearls, so I'm looking for jewelry the combines the two. I'm going for my first fitting next week and I think I'll have a much better idea of what I'm looking for afterwards.

Check out this site if you haven't already:

There's a cute 'quiz' that asks you about your wedding day style and dress and then suggests what kind of jewelry you should wear. GL!

oh to answer the last question. I brought pics of my dress to the jewelry person. She has her own jewelry line and custom makes them, her name is Regina B. After showing her pics of my dress she showed me what would go with my dress and what wouldn't go. So that helped out.

My doj is by Haute Bride, I'm obsessed with their pieces. First saw them on theknot, and then after extensive googling, found them on perfectdetails.com and facebook.
What I love about their pieces is they make a statement and not so 'bride-ey', I could wear a lot of the stuff after the wedding.

Right now I'm working with the designer on a bracelet! We've been commuting via email, she's wonderful.

Re: How did you pick your DOJ?

I bought mine 3 weeks before the wedding. i just happened to come across earrings and a bracelet that I just fell in love with. I knew i did not want a necklace as my 1st gown had stones and it would have been much.

Thanks girls! I'm definitely leaning towards swarovski crystals since my gown has crystals and beading. Just not sure if I want a vintage look, a simple one, or one that's just dripping with sparkles. I found a vendor etsy.com and some pieces on annabellagio and was thinking about these:

I don't know what your dress looks like, but I love the first necklace you posted!

As for my DOJ, I mixed and matched over time. My dress was a halter top, so I had to do something very simple for a necklace (which is my style anyway). I had a necklace and pendant that I already loved, and it was simple enough to work with the dress. I found simple but pretty earrings at Tri-County, and the design matched the design on my shoes and headpiece. For the bracelet, I needed something borrowed, so I asked my mom for a simple bangle, and it worked just fine.

Re: How did you pick your DOJ?

I brought a pic of my dress with me and I chose what I felt would look compliment my dress most. The woman who sold me the jewelry showed me a few different pieces and I tried them on and kept looking at the pic of my dress and picked what I felt would look best. I knew going in I wanted only earrings and a bracelet no necklace.

I would def suggest bringing a pic of your dress with you. And keep in mind the style of your dress. Is it dramatic? Is it the princess, big pouffy style? Is it more fitted? Does it have a lot of beading? What about your veil and your hairpieces? KEEP THAT IN MIND TOO! Becauseyou dont want over kill either on the bling bling... =))

There are A LOT of beautiful pieces out there but something will stand out to you I promise! I am THE MOST indecisive person EVER and when I saw the pieces I bought (earrings with matching bracelet) I just fell in love! Every piece she showed me I still went back to that one and thats the one I left with! First place I went to and all! =))

I bought a few things I liked, and when I had my hair trial and makeup trail I tried them and then decided what I liked..

Re: How did you pick your DOJ?

so, this is my dress - it's my first time posting a pic of it on here... (don't know why that makes me nervous! LOL) I was trying to find a necklace like the model has, but I think it may be overkill...

Ooh - can't get it to post. I'll attach link...

dress

Any DOJ suggestions? I'm going for a romantic/vintage feel

THANKS!!!

Re: How did you pick your DOJ?

There are sooo many choices, but you'll find the right one! I had no idea what I wanted, so I found a dress shop that would let me bring in my dress and try the jewelry on. For me price was a big factor and I wanted something that complemented my dress. Maybe one of the local bridal shops will let you bring in your dress and try on their jewelry. Maybe you'll find the perfect DOJ or maybe just get a good idea of what you are looking for.

I like the first necklace you posted... I think it would look beautiful. Simple, classic, elegant...

I am also attaching some ideas from www.whiteaisle.com

*Some of them are too large to attach... but you can see them at the website

I LOVEEEEEEEEEE your dress!!! Its GORGEOUS!

I would definately suggest looking around get ideas, try things on see what you like on yourself. did you have ANY ideas of what you like?

IMO I would say have like 1 dramatic piece and then have everything else compliment it. Like if you wear a chunky necklace, go lighter on the earrings ya know what I mean? You want to keep in mind everything to compliment each other BUT MORE SO compliment the dress... You dont want anything to take the attention AWAY from the dress if that makes sense LOL

The earrings that I wore were given to me by my parents when I got my Master's degree.

The necklace that I wore was a diamond heart given to me by my husband a few years ago.

I guess I'm the sentimental type.....

Re: How did you pick your DOJ?

i knew i wanted like an old hollywood vintage/glam look for my dress so i decided on big earrings and a bracelet and searched from there. I think its much easier once you decide on the look you are going for, it helps narrow down all the choices.

your dress is beautiful!
