Re: How different is your family V. FH/DH family?

Our families are different as well.

One similarity is that we both had a strict upbringing, however I was allowed to do things, where as with him , he was more sheltered.

My family is very close, we love each other a whoel hell of a lot and we genuinely like being around each other.

His family are seemingly close , but not really IMO.

I was raised by my grandmother, I had no father to speak of .

He was raised by both parents.

Re: How different is your family V. FH/DH family?

Uhhh, lots!!

My family is:

Outgoing and social, his is not. Respect people's boundaries and try to work out internal problems within the family, his does not. Have open minds, they do not. Have an appreciation for all cultures, musical styles, diffences in people, his does not. Have alot of friends, they do not. Like to do fun things, they do not. Aren't hypocrites, they are. Promote harmony and togetherness, they conquer and divide, Know how to entertain and make people feel welcome, they only know how to take and give very little in return. Grew up middle class, they grew up as misers (lower income) meanwhile they could buy and sell my parents. Came from a large, close knit family - they have a small strife ridden family. My parents taught us to be independant - his parents would be content to control their lives for ever if possible.

Man, this could go on all day...

Re: How different is your family V. FH/DH family?

Another total opposite!!!

My family is blue collar/working class all the way (except me - not sure where I came from). They are pretty laid back. We never had any money and never had much as far as monetary possessions (never owned even a car and my parents still don't). Never took a family vacation. We never dress up for much - don't own much dress clothes. My mom has worked all her life (she still works three jobs!) We are all pretty independent. Anything goes at the dinner table. Pretty young family! Super tuff family - brothers and dad esp. - always ready for a fight!

His is so different. Upper/Middle class - white collar family. Dad worked in finance and mom stayed home with the kids. They aren't rich but have enough money - that they don't need to worry much. Growing up they were in swim clubs and took weekend trips and stuff. Parents are all into your business. The family dinners are very conservative. Dress up for a dinner at home for a holiday. Family is much older. Parents are much more conservative and old-fashioned in their ways and beliefs.

Soo different. It is very hard on the relationship.

Re: How different is your family V. FH/DH family?

our parents are VERY different

my parents: never goes on vacation, never wants to part with their money even though they have plenty, are not easy to talk to, will not help me out with anything.

his parents: are always going away, very friendly, easy to get along with, when i first met them i felt like i've known them for years, will help out whenever you need it, no questions asked.

there are many more, to many to list.

Re: How different is your family V. FH/DH family?

Pretty different.
I was an only child and very spoiled-FH had to work for everything he wanted.

My parents are much younger than his.

My family is a little more 'rowdier' than his. Our family gatherings are all loud with people talking over each other.

Our dads are alike in the sense that they are both very hard workers and actually LOVE to work.

Re: How different is your family V. FH/DH family?

his parents both work, my mom is stay at home(even though im the youngest)
his parents have money, my parents dont
his parents go out to dinner 1-2 times a week, my parents go out to dinner 1-2 times a YEAR.

there are MANY differences they have... but theyre both good in there own ways!(and they know to be on there best behavior... well not my mom all the time.. when they met she started telling his grandma ' my daughter dated so many guys before she met mike'... things not to say)
