ok i knew one person was giving me money for the shower bc fh told me his aunt called and asked if we wanted a gift or $400 or 500 in cash and fh answered cash. Now i find out today that quite a few of his family members are giving us cash, i mean i know of at least 10 that are doing this. A decent amount of gifts are off my registry but for how many guests we are having i knew something was up and now i know.
What do i say when i open their card with the money, i mean i cant say the amount that'd be weird right? do i just say oh cash gift or what? and do you think the ppl would expect me to say how much? I dont even know what to do. Alot of the old school family members are doing the cash thing so im trying to think how they would want me to do it

Definitely, open the card; If I was a guest, and gave you money, I would want people to know I didn't come emptyhanded, but I would only expect a thank you, not to hear the amount. I think most people would be courteous enough to know that when you open a card, and you look at the guest, and say thank you, that it was a monetary gift. Mary MOB

Yes I would just say 'Thank you for your generous gift' and make sure to give them a very nice thank you note.
i like the generous gift part, i want to be prepared lol i dont want to say anything that can upset anybody...i know some think its not a big deal but if anybody knows how some old school europeans can be, you dont want to not say the right thing and i have to say the EXACT same thing with exact same enthusiasm

from the showers ive been to, they didnt open the cards, just the gifts b/c i guess it would be weird. Just thank them as they give it to you i guess. But getting cash is probably better
do you think they'd get mad if i didnt open the card at the shower? these are old school italians so i dont know how they'd feel about that lol. I will open it and say thank you in front of everybody bc then otherwise other guests will think the other maybe didnt give a gift and trust me they'll pay attention to what other family members got me ya know
i guess i would open the card and read it and just thank them for the gift..so atleast they will get recognized for bringing a gift

I agree definitely don't say how much they gave but saying 'monetary gift' is a great idea. I don't think I even said that much, I had a few people give $ for the shower, I just opened up the card, read it, and said thank you.

you just say Thank You. It is def. not proper etiquette to announce the amount because...well...because it's no one's business :)
We got a lot of $$ and gift cards for our shower bc a lot of people were from out of state and probably didn't want to lug a gift around to the actual shower. It worked out great though bc we were able to really get what we wanted. Have fun!
its weird but i wanted alot of my gifts off my registries hahahaha but yeah the money will come in handy now. I mean i appreciate anything anybody will give me

or for each monetary gift you could kinda lighten it up jokingly saying 'a nice investment in our future, thank you, it will be put to good use!' something to that effect

oh dont remind me about seating arrangements, thats a whole other issue on its own. Thank god i have no say in seating arrangement at my shower but for the wedding its going to be a pain lol. There was a little bit of drama right in the beginning of our e-party bc of this, luckily it got resolved right away and i didnt find out until after it happened

i am going to ask FMIL lol something as small as NOT saying monetary gift might cause problems lol

yeah but what i'm saying is when you go back to the store, there may be stuff there that wasn't there before and now you can get it.
When we went back to fortunoffs after the shower (and LNT), we got SOOOOOOOOO much stuff that we never even noticed or thought we would need. The returns for doubles and triples alone got us a huge credit, plus we got money, so we totally did up our place. We got wall fixtures, appliances, area rugs...random stuff. We've been living together since december so we had so much stuff already.....you never know what you will need!

very true, although any money we get will most likely go towards wedding things lol. Probably go straight to the RH haha

so odd though... i rarely see monetary gifts at the shower.
the whole point of registering is for the shower, at least in my experience.

I imagine you're talking aboutwhen you open the gifts in front of the guests at the shower right? I would say, 'oh thank you! This will help with the new couch we want!' Insert something you couldn't put on the registry. Just so it'snot like...thanks for the cash!

yeah but the shower is all about just the gifts and if i am opening up gifts and not recognizing they gave something, i think they might not like that.
