Ok ladies, is it just me or does anyone else feel the same?
I address my MIL as Mrs. X when I was dating DH. Now that we are married, she asked me to address her as 'Mom' or 'FirstName'
Does anyone have problems adjusting? Do you address MIL differently after your marriage?

I've been calling her Mrs. XX the whole time i've known FH, but since we've gotten engaged, I've joked around calling her mom. I don't think I'll have a hard time at all adjusting because we're just so close.

YES! SAME HERE, in my WEDDING ETIQUITE BOOK it said that if you are not comfortable saying 'mom' after she asks you, you should TELL HER THAT YOU are not comfy, call her by her first name or whatever you prefer because if not, you will find yourself in 10 years not saying ANYTHING - which is my case. I just kind of talk to her but never address her!

My FMIL insists I call her by her first name, but it's wierd to me! I have to try though because she really wants me to... I've only used her first name when write out a card to her so far, but eventually the time will come when I have to use in person!

i call FH's mom...Joanne for her first name.
but my FH still calls my parents, Mr. & Mrs. XX
i think he will NEVER be able to call them by first name. lol

No way will I call anyone but my own mom mom - I have one mother .. I called FMIL by her first name
I called her Mrs. X until we got engaged. The day after we got engaged she called me to tell me to call her whatever I felt more comfortable doing either caling her by her first name or Mom (no more Mrs. X). She always asked me to address by her first name when we were just dating but I never felt comfortable.
My FMIL and I are very close so calling her Mom is easy for me. FH calls my Mom 'Mom' too!

I agree with you here, I'm calling nobody mom but my own mom. :D It just feels too weird esp. considering I used to call her Mrs. X. To call her mom after using Mrs. X all these years is tough!

Both FH and me call our respective moms 'Signora' which basically means Mrs. in italian. Our familes are really old school so we don't feel comfortable calling our FMIL's by their first name. Once we're married we're gonna ask them is they're comfortable with us calling them mamma.

FH parents are divorced and I have called them both by their first names since I met them..
John calls my mom Mrs. X and i think it will be hard to make the switch to Connee after the wedding but he will work it out. It helps that my 4 brothers-in-law already call her Connee.

I will be addressing her by her first name! I lost my Mom....and It wouldn't feel comfortable to call some else Mom . JMO

I already have a mom so I call her by her first name. I called her Mrs. X when we first started dating.

I don't address her directly. I avoid it. If I am talking about her I will say Mom, or Rob's Mom - depending on who I am talking to.

I have alsways called her by her first name, however my DH called my mom Mrs. XX before the wedding and now calls her mom. My mom would be offend if my husband called her by her first name. My dad could care less. I just stick to first names.

I used to just wait for her to look at me
Then after about 3 years of dating I called her Mrs. xxx and she was really shocked. Since then I call her by her first name, but only when absolutely necessary.
