How do you clean hardwood (Polyeurathaned) floors?
Can I use a Swiffer wet jet on them, or an old fashioned mop with murphy's oil soap... we are just moving in and I want to give them a good cleaning, without ruining them.

The floor guy told me not to use any murphy's oil or stuff like that. He said to use vinegar and warm water.

Or you can get a specific solution from Home Depot to clean hard wood floors.. Don't saturate them though and pick up one of those terry cloth mops. They are awesome!

Vinegar and warm water works really well. Murphy's Oil soap wouldnt be my choice for a 'good cleaning' ...We use vinegar and water and then after I mop the floor, I go over it with a dry towel to pick up any dirt the mop missed. I have pictures of my couches on another post and you can see part of the floor in our living room, it cleans very well.

I fill up my bucket full of water and mix in about 1/2 c. of vinegar :)

Good luck, dont forget to dry with a towel, it makes a big difference. I throw the towel on the floor and stand on it and then walk around swishing it with my feet Too much work to get down on my knees and do it. Hey, I'm not THAT dedicated to clean floors

My mom uses vinager and water on our floors and they look great when she's done.... but the house smells like and italian salad dressing for an hour or so afterwards

We were given care instructions when our floors were refinished .. and it specifically says do not use Murphy's Oil Soap .. we barely get any traffic over our floors anyway .. and basically I just Swiffer (dry clothes) to get the dust off .. and use a barely damp sponge mop.

i've also heard not to use the murphy's oil but i do anyways....it makes the floors smell soo clean!! but first i mop my hardwood floors with white vinegar and warm water and then go over with a little bit of murphys oil just to get the vinger smell away.
