Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat

I agree cut back on fatty foods, and certain carbs. It is good to eat complex carbs.

I also agree excercise...such as cardio and weights.
It will fat into muscle.

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

combination of cardiovascular training and strength training. I don't know if you are looking to lose weight, but depending on how much fat you are looking to lose depends on how much cardio you need to to to facilitate the weight loss. Weight training is GREAT because the more muscle mass you have the higher your metabloism speeds up, which means more calories burned!!!
2-3 times a week strength training - every muscle group.
cardio prefereable everyday for health reasons and weight management (does not have to be in at gym,,walking, bike riding, roller blading)

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

P.S...you cannot turn fat into muscle and visa versa...muscle will not turn back into fat. They are 2 totally different types of tissues. If you do stop strength training..you WILL loose your muscle mass (you it or lose it theory)...And you appear flabby, becasue you lost the muscle tone. Plus less muscle = lower metabolism, and if you still eat the same = weight GAIN

Make sense???

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

I didnt mean the actually fat tissue turning into muscle, but losing the fat and gaining more tone is what I meant.

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

OK...how do you work out for 30-60 min...using only 3 machines?

these are the machines in my gym (which is literally 100 yards away from my apt - so I should be able to go every day)

lat pulldown...with bar..and rope for triceps
chest press
fly machine...I think thats what its called...for pecs
bicep machine
stomach cruncher
and the 2 leg ones...I don't work my legs out...I actually have good leg muscles...and I run so I stay away from legs...

I never cna do more than 10-12 in reps...so I guess I have good weight

help!! anyone?

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

Yabbobay- I don't know as much as everyone else on here who have been so helpful but I will try...
You have the 3 machines and you want to work everything but your legs
You can do 2 sets for each muscle group
ie..for biceps do Curls and then Hammer curls, for Triceps do tricep pushdowns and reverse curls
Do 3 sets of 12 and rest about 30 seconds between each set and then about 90 seconds between muscles.

Or you can do the sets this way.
1st set: 12 of a light weight
2nd set: 10 of a little heavier weight
3rd set: 8 of a heavier weight
4th set: 6 of the heaviest weight you can do (keeping good form)
5th set: 12 of the light (starting weight)
Then after the 5th set do a different exercise for the same muscle 12 reps at a light weight (this should be a burning set)
(For example do the 5 sets of bicep curls and then the last exercise would be the hammer curls) If you do it this way you need to make sure you rest 30 seconds between each set.

You should do Chest, Back, Shoulders, Triceps and Biceps.

I don't know if this helps much! Also does your gym have free wieghts?

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

I have free weights...but help! whats a hammer curl? tricep pushdown?

I think I know what a reverse curl is...your elbows at your side - arms by shoulder...then hold the bar and bring your arms to a right angle at the elbow?

ok...what are back, chest and shoulder exercises...sorry to be a pain...but I do the machines...and have good form...but I don't know how the muscles work...

thanks!

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

Yabbobay-
You can definitely still do the machines, if thats what you are comfortable with, or if thats what you'd rather.

Here are a few different exercises with just weights.

Hammer Curl- Its similar to a Bicep curl but Keep the palms of your hands facing each other. Put your hands straight down at your side, holding your weights, bring your weights/hands up to your shoulders (almost to your shoulders) and back down.

What I call tricep pushdown is what I think you are calling a reverse curl.
The pushdown is with the bar. Your elbows at your side - arms bent by shoulders and then straighten But don't lock your elbows.
The Reverse curl is done without weights, you would use the side of a bench basically you sit on the floor, put your hands on the bench seat and straingten arms. extend your legs in front of you. Bring your butt off the floor and using your triceps, bend your elbows to 90degrees as you lower yourself, don't let your butt hit rest on the floor.

Shoulder Exercises with the weights:
- Hold your weights at your side, arms at 90degrees, bring your weights/hands together infront of you, raise both arms (at the same time) to shoulder height. Bring arms back down to infront of you.
another one for shoulders
-Hold wieghts at your side palms facing back, raise arms straight out infront of you to shoulder height , lower to starting position.

For the Back and Chest I usually just use machines, but if you want ideas with free weights just let me know and I can give you some.

I hope I explained the exercises so you could understand them, (I am horrible at explaining things)

Let me know if you have any questions, I will be happy to help.

Edited to say that the exercises I mentioned are the ones that I do, but by know means do you HAVE to do these. I am just trying to give you ideas and examples.

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

Wow ... really good advice here! I've been working out for the past 6 months - and have slacked off the last 2 weeks. I see my muscles getting tighter and I'm much stronger! However I'm not lean at all and am not cut up like I want to be. I haven't changed my diet at all - guess that's where I need to start focusing now.
I'd love to see that chart. I'm a carb addict ... it's definitely something I'd love to start cutting out. From the looks of things I only eat the bad carbs!!

Re: How Do you Cut Body Fat/

Question: How many exercises should you do for each muscle? I usually do 2 is that enough? I.e. bicep curl and hammer curl for biceps.
