How does everyone feel about candle centerpieces.....I personally love them ...I love how you can make each table alittle different etc....however I am starting to become nervous that this is a bad idea for a few reasons...
1- open bar and open flame.. 2- there will be children but no candles on the kids table 3- some people feel it looks cheap ...but in the end I will prob spend more on candle centerpices then flowers would have cost
any input would be great

Re: how do you feel about candle centerpieces....
I think candle centerpieces, when done right, can be just as nice as flowers. As far as looking cheap, it depends on what you do with them. For example, I have seen pictures of people who use lots of pillar candles that are different heights on a mirrored try with rose petals and it looks great!!
Honestly, most guests don't even remember the centerpieces. I was the MOH at my BF's wedding two years ago and can't even remember what the centerpieces looked like. If this is what you want, go for it!!

Re: how do you feel about candle centerpieces....
I was originally going to have candle centerpieces to cut costs but when I met with my florist I decided to go with flowers. My flower centerpieces are only $40 for 18 red roses in a large round fishbowl vase. I'm going to put votive candles around it though just to make it more interesting. She priced out candle centerpieces and I probably would pay the same if not more to make them than if I picked the roses.

We did some flower cps and some all candles cps, and people loved them. Much like with flowers, at the end of the night they claimed candles and took them home because they liked them that much.
We used professional grade pillar candles - even John from FM asked where we got them because they were so nice.

I love candles! We're doing candles with floating flowers and rose petals around the outside! It was less expensive and I loved the way it looked!

Re: how do you feel about candle centerpieces....
I have been going back and forth on doing a candle centerpiece (pillar in a hurricane vase with stones on the bottom, rose petals on the table around it) or a inexpensive flower centerpiece (gladiolas in a large trumpet vase). They might turn out to be the same cost, but I love candles - I used to sell them! I may be able to get a deal on pillars, too.
I can't decide!

i love candles too. it really adds to the ambiance, particularly at night, and the soft glow looks good on everyone. Plus, you can see the other ppl at the table.
a wedding i went to recently had a short, square vase with flowers in it, candles on either side of the flowers, and rose petals scattereed on the table around the pillar candles. it looked very classy and sophisticated.
i don't really go for the mirror look myself, but it's just my taste. i totally want candles!

Re: how do you feel about candle centerpieces....
i think candle centerpieces are amazingly elegant. I've been to a ton of open bar events with candles and no one got hurt or started a fire.
I don't think it looks cheap at all. In fact, if anyone tells me it looks cheap, then they'll get a centerpiece of dandelions on their table.

Re: how do you feel about candle centerpieces....
For us - i'm mixing candles & flowers. We're going to do low centerpieces of roses and high candles...i love the look of a candle glow...
If you wanted - you could always do what I see a lot of girls doing - candles with rose petals sprinkled all around them... Those are really nice looking as well!!
Kids table - go bucket of crayons....no candles...
I understand the concern of open bar and open flame....my FH's friends are alcoholic morons...but if they aren't mature enough to handle themselves, that's not my problem....i am not going to limit my use of candles...go ahead - burn yourself....

I got the candles from www.paramold.com. They are in Sayville so I went to pick them up to avoid shipping costs. My hall required them to be on glass plates, which I got dirt cheap at Ikea.
