How do you feel about naming a child after yourself?

Thisnis far more common with men.

I have a few like this in my family..but I SERIOUS:Y don't get it. It just seems SO egotistical to me. let the poor kid have his own name!

I agree with you. I'm for naming after decesased relatives but when there's two people living in the same household with the same name it must get confusing. Let the kid have their own identity.

I agree. I used to hate calling up friends houses when the father/son or mother/daughter had the same name - no one ever knew who I was trying to call!

my sisters boyfriend is named Jeffrey Todd, after his father, Jeff. He goes by his middle name Todd. He desperately wants to name a son Jeffrey Todd Jr. because he thinks it would be hysterical to introduce themselves to people, 'hi, I'm Jeff Jr., this is my father Todd.' Sillyhead.

Totally not into it. DH wanted his first son to be named after him. I will allow it for a middle name but not a first name. Plus his dad is the same name - just too many with the same name for my taste. But now we can't pick a boys name and got to get on that in case our baby is a boy in three months....

There are lots of juniors in my family..just how it is..I never minded it and think its kind of nice. But i don't think I will name my child after my fiance...he isn't that into it.

that is all that my family is, my mom is coleen, so is my sister. my brother is thomas, so is my dad. sister named after grandmother and aunt, my mother has a cousin janice. it goes on and on. I am not into it, but oddly enough it is not really confusing.

Totally agree! One friend named her daughter after her mother who is deceased which I thought was nice but the second kid is named after the husband and he's like the IV or V; it's ridiculous! FI and I already decided we weren't naming our child after him.

I wouldn't name a child after myself - it's actually a little embarrassing to me that both my name and my mother's name both start with the same letter! but, my name is a bit unusual anyway...

But, I think it's nice to name a child after its father.

i don't think i would name my daughter sarah, but i want to name my son after my fh, christopher. but he is dead set aganist it, he is a jr and doesn't want a christopher III. my argument is, he doesn't have to have the same middle name, just the first. we'll see what happens when the time comes.

I actually like it.

I think it gives children a sense of history and where they come from... there is something to be said for family names.. it's a link to the past.

With that said, all of my children will be named after people in my family

Madeline after my mother & grandmother
Jack after my FIL
Paul Richard after my Step Father

why is that embarrssing? I have a 2nd cousin name theresa & her 3 daughters allhave names that start with T.

My MIL & her mother have the same name. And MIL's middle name is the other daughter's first name.

I always thoguht that was strange. She has a brother but I dont' think he is named after anyone.

My mom HATES jrs. in my dad's family, the fahter's name becomes the son's middle name, which she likes & is what they did for my brother.

I dated a jr. except he wasn't really a jr. he was one of a long line of George's, but they had diffent middle names. However, his mother still called him Jr. ew.

My grandmother named her youngest (second daughter) after herself because she couldn't think of any names. They were Big Nellie and Little Nellie.
I don't really care for it, so thankfully DH is Jewish so he won't be trying to name a son after himself.

My father & brother both have the same first name (but my brother has a different middle name but his full name is the same as my father's father).

The ego think never really crossed my mind, but it was annoying growing up and having to say 'Junior or Senior?' when someone called.

My Fil, my Dh, and My youngest had the same name completely including middle name. Now just Dh and my son.

I never found the junior/senior thing confusing because most times there were nicknames...my dad and brother are both Charles but my dad is called Chuck and my bro is Charlie...

My fiance and his dad are John...but FH is Johnny and Dad is John. Never was a prob for us! I love the idea of a junior...maybe a John with a different middle name?

I always considered it more of a family tradition versus being egotistical. If I was a boy, I was going to be named after my father and I would have been proud to have his name.
