Re: how do you fire one of your vendors?
Look at the contract you signed. Most of them state that the deposit is non-refundable. If you are willing to lose the money & are able to get someone else then just call them & tell them you don't need their services. Maybe you can tell them that the wedding was called off, they might be sympathetic & give you back the deposit. my friend did that with 2 vendors she wanted to switch-one was the hall & it worked.
GOOD LUCK

Depending on the vendor and whether or not you have a contract with them, review your contract closely and read the fine print to see what it says about cancellations. If it doesn't say anything ask them straight out... 'what is your cancellation policy? What will happen to my deposit? ' And see what they say.... If this is a major vendor, I would go with your gut feeling...

Being that it's the florist and you didn't sign a contract I would say 'I think we don't share the same vision and I believe that you won't be able to do what it is that I am envisioning and I would like to cancel your services. I would like to cancel your services and would like a refund of my deposit...' If they try to say that you can't, say you didn't sign anything but I am not sure if that will work, because I myself have not yet booked a florist.....

Re: how do you fire one of your vendors?
I am having the same problem with my photographer.
he didn't do anything wrong - we just don't click - I asked an he would n't give me my deposit back (see why we don't click... he is a jerk and I'm not )
So essentially for peace of mind - I'm booking another photographer - and I'm pretty much making the origional photographer nuts
is there a way to book someone else? I couldn't stand to think I was throwing that much $ away by losing the deposit

Re: how do you fire one of your vendors?
hmm...you didn't sign a contract, but you did leave a deposit. that is a tricky one.
I think Noiva's approach is best. just be up front and remind the florist that you did not sign a binding contract- hopefully you can get your money back.

I think I'm just going to be honest and firm but polite and ask for my deposit back. Thanks to all you NOVIAS...

I'm in the EXACT situation... I booked a florist, meaning I gave a deposit but didn't sign a contract. Then I heard about all these bad reviews and it got me nervous. I reveiwed the quote I got from the florist and it says once money is put down to hold the date, that document becomes the contract. If for some reason you need to cancel it says they will be more than happy to give a credit. So in my case I'm stuck with $200 worth of credit. Oh well, I guess it's roses for me now and every month going forward until the credit runs out!!
