How do you make friends????

I'm actually really serious about the question - how do you all go about making friends??

I mean, it's so different when you're in school or at work or something, friendships jsut sort of happen. But when you're not, you have to, I guess join clubs or activities, or just stalk people in bars. It's pretty daunting!

Just wondering if anyone has any advice or could share their experiences?

(BTW, I have two girl-dates coming up )

We should all get together at a happy hour, that was a good idea! Is anyone moving into the new, 'Avalon Pines'? on Pine Road in Coram?

I am in Patchogue. I love the ecology site. It is right around the corner from me. Maybe we could do a dinner at the Brickhouse. I would suggest a Fridays but they tend to be overly crowded and loud.

I made my best friend through my Dh, after my HS and College friends...

My other new girlfriends are ones I work out with ..some from work itself...
some from graduate classess I'm in.
I too got very close with my nail girl...

Everytime I have a Best friend, we are friends for like 2 years and then something happens and we go our seperate ways. I am always thinking 'is it me?'

The same thing happens to me....i keep thinking i must be doing something wrong bc its like a recurring pattern i am fairly outgoing and i have to be at work for my job....i really miss some of my old friends, i have been thinking of this a lot lately.

I have the same problem. I have work friends like Wendy said but that friendship ends at 5:00 p.m.

I keep in touch with my one friend from when I went for my last two years of HS in Brooklyn, she is now in SI married for 5 years with 2 kids.

It's even hard for me to make friends on here, I guess because I am not that outgoing and I am kind of shy, I don't know how to make conversation...

I am one of those girls that cries constantly while watching t.v. when I see a touching moment. Whether it be from a family member (which I never had) or with the girls, etc.. I am so jealous of girls who have great friends like on 'Friends' or 'Sex and the City' I always dream one day that I will have that also.

I have the same problem - I have some work friends - but they are older than me- that ends at 5:00 too. I have a few friends who I rarely talk to - and we only get together when the holidays come or kids b-day parties. I have found that since I had my son (he's 6) - I pretty much lost the friends I had - they were single blah,blah, blah - now they are married and so am I - but I guess we've grown apart. My DH tells me all the time to go out and make some friends - but how????
I too, get jealous when I see 'Friends', I've always wanted that kind of relationship with a group of people - but never happened - I am also very shy.

Yes we should definently have a Suffolk GTG.

I'm in Mastic Beach - I would love a Suffolk GTG. All the others seem so far away, I hate driving, again, maybe this is why I have no friends.

My husband is almost the same, he tells me I need to get a hobby.

This GTG will definently do us some good I think. Maybe, just maybe we can fulfill our dream of that 'FRIENDS' relationship.

This is my all time question, I don't make friends and when I do, I have the worst luck. I only have 1 person, honestly that I seriously call a friend.

I don't hang out much, I am a home body, but once in a while it is good to have girl talk, you know. I live in Queens though and there is not much people here in this area to meet. At my job, everyone is over 50 and they bore the hell out of me.
