How do you make friends????

Everyone is mentioning their IM names, you do mean AOL, correct? Because I also have a Yahoo IM name.

but I don't really go on IM anymore at work, I have my Yahoo on at home tho.

I have the same problem. I have work friends like Wendy said but that friendship ends at 5:00 p.m.

I keep in touch with my one friend from when I went for my last two years of HS in Brooklyn, she is now in SI married for 5 years with 2 kids.

It's even hard for me to make friends on here, I guess because I am not that outgoing and I am kind of shy, I don't know how to make conversation...

I am one of those girls that cries constantly while watching t.v. when I see a touching moment. Whether it be from a family member (which I never had) or with the girls, etc.. I am so jealous of girls who have great friends like on 'Friends' or 'Sex and the City' I always dream one day that I will have that also.

I feel you pain I find it extremely hard to make good friends and keep in touch with them Im so bad at intiating hanging out and calling becuase I have this fear of rejection or I feel like Im obligating someone to hang out with me becuase they may not want to... I need to make some friends.

Everytime I have a Best friend, we are friends for like 2 years and then something happens and we go our seperate ways. I am always thinking 'is it me?'

My last best friend was my cousin (we even sort of looked alike) and once I met my husband we starting slipping. I don't know why? She didn't even come to my wedding. When I went to my other cousins baby's christening last month, she was there and we didn't even say HI to each other. I miss her and the friendship we had.

the only friends i have are 3 girls that i've known since i was little, like 6. i haven't made any new friends since high school and these are the only people i keep in touch with.

Sounds like a plan! Oct - of course you are welcome to come! Nassau girls can come too - I'm not being biased against those in Nassau I just figured it would be easier for the Suffolk gals to get together and have someone close they could hang with at the drop of a hat.

I know Jaime can't bowl but maybe we could do something else that might be fun?I've been to so many GTG's where we had dinner and stuff but the bonds (speaking only for myself here) never really develop and conversation is akward (like a blind date). This way people can stay busy, have fun collectively, etc.

I know it's a tough call - there's not to much 'inside' stuff to do

If it was a nice day (ha-ha) I would have suggested a picnic or something at the Holtsville Ecology Center. There's alot of neat stuff to do there (Zoo, bike/walking trails, picnic area, etc.).

Same here! (Hi Christine! ) Before I met DH I was part of a social club in NYC and I met some good friends there. I think the important thing is to find something that allows you to run into the same people repeatedly, so you give the friendship a chance to develop.

I also keep in mind a line I heard once that I thought was pretty good - you can use it verbatim or change it to fit your style, but the thought is the key point. That point was when you've met someone you enjoy and want to get to know better, you can say you 'feel like this conversation isn't finished, and would they like to meet for coffee sometime'. A simple way to say I'm enjoying our conversation and would like to meet again to continue it.
