Re: how do you sit shiva?
From the one's that i have gone to, I don't know if they have followed tradition, but we have just gone to the persons house, usually brought food dishes for the family and just hang out at the persons house.

I am not Jewish but I was going to suggest the above because this is what I heard as well.

Re: how do you sit shiva?
my MOH is jewish and when her grandmother died we went to her aunts house they cover all the mirriors with black cloth and sit on milk crates or these small black leather foot rest looking things. But thats mainly family that sit on them. You can follow what you see other non relatives doing. Thats if they follow the trasdition. you go and bring KOSHER food (i learned that the hard way oops) I ended up going to trader joe's and looking for stuff with the kosher symbol and buying snacks and cookies and candy. Usually the temple sends food over as well as friends and neighbors so they usually have tons of 'hot' food. I would bring snacks especially if there's kids. You can get jelly rings theyre a big hit. I hope this helped

Re: how do you sit shiva?
Well, it depends what you mean.
Sitting shiva is what the immediate family of the deceased does for usually a week after the funeral. They cover all the mirrors in the house and sit on card board boxes for a week...theres some symbolism about being uncomfortable.
Friends and less close family do something called a shiva call, which is basically going to the house of whoever is holding the shiva one or more times during the week to pay your respects. These people do not sit on boxes and do not have to be there the entire week.
This is all accurate considering that I'm Jewish so I would know :) haha.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :)
