how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

my FMIL came over last night to do the seating arrangements....i wanted to kill her...we had a table plan that the hall gave us to work with...she made comments about where the band would be located, the size of the room, the location of the tables, how many tables were hers, etc....AAAGHH!!

then she wants to turn my wedding into some kind of a social experiment by throwing together all the single people who don't know each other because she wants to play matchmaker....personally, i don't want to turn my wedding into a speed dating service....i think the nice thing is to seat people with who they know, not who you want them to know....am i nuts???!!!

No, you are not nuts. IMO, I would seat your friends with other people that they know IF possible. Unless you know that they are very outgoing and will talk to anyone, they will thank you later!

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

OMG, you know with weddings, everyone tries to make it their own affair. You are NOT going nuts, single people should sit with who they already know so they can be comfortable.
Keep your head up, it's your wedding, try not to sweat it ( I know, easier said than done, lol)

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

I did not let anybody help me with the seating charts at all. My Mother-in-law only chose the people at her table and we didn't let her get one imput for the rest of the table. I sat the aunts and uncles together, cousins together, and almost everybody else with the people they. Don't let them make you crazy. I suggest you sit with your FH and make the seating arrangement the way you would like.

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

Like i say all the time my parents and in laws are having a VERY limited roll in who comes or the planning of my wedding. But i will listen.Me and my fh are paying for this 100% and i want to make sure that it is done our way.Sorry if i sound so stern. But try to tell her that if you are paying for it alone just say thanks for the advice but i want to do it this way.Now if they are paying for some of it ,then its very hard to say anything, but to compromise with them.

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

wow! isn't doing your seating plan a royal pain in the butt? Then to have Mrs. Matchmaker wanting to controll everything! I just finished my seating plan and I have to say that it was a horrible thing that I never want to go through again and that I'm glad it's all over! With me, it was my mother that was causing all the trouble. We got into many stupid fights about this!

good luck with the rest of the planning! I know it's hard, but try not to stress over this too much!

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

Try not to let her get to you too much. Just tell her you would rather do it the more traditional way.
I had a similar problem with my MIL, she wanted us to have each family sit everyother table so that the families would 'mingle'. But my family lives all over and they don't all get to see eachother that often so my parents wanted to have their family tables near them. Plus all my friends didn't fit at one table so I had to split them up but I still wanted them to be near eachother. I think the seating and the invite list was the most stressful part of the planning, but in the end it all worked out.
Goo luck

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

You are not nuts!! I definitely think you should seat people with who they know. I don't think a wedding is necessarily the type of place to force people to mingle. They aren't attending for that purpose. You want your guests to thoroughly enjoy the day...which means being near people they know!! Try not to stress to much about it...you are right here!

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

Whatever you do, DO NOT let your FMIL win this one! Just to give you an example...I went to my cousin's wedding recently and he and his wife thought it would be fun for me and FH to sit with their med-school friends...and not George Clooney med-types..more like nerd central. Needless to say..not a good time....the only time we stayed in our seats was to eat and even that was a challenge! I remember cutting into my chicken with a discussion on nasty surgery going on across the table!

So tell her the single people will find the other singles at the wedding IF THEY WANT TO. Otherwise it just makes for an evening of uncomfotable small talk for the matchmaker's victims!!

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

Chin up and good luck! You are not crazy!

I hear ya. My mom (we're not sure if she ever really had a hold on reality - and she's become completely irrational regarding all things wedding related) wants her entire family and a number of close friends to sit at her table. That would mean that her table would have to fit 22 people!! (and that's not even including dad's side) Thank goodness the wedding's still 9 mos away!

same problem....different family!

Somehow the words 'I CANNOT WAIT TILL THIS IS OVER' keep coming to mind......

Bitter day today - but I can relate! Don't let her win - you have come this far!

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

Your first mistake was asking your FMIL over to help, the second was showing her any diagrams. I told my stepmom that she could group her guests and my Dad's family into tables. I mean, I don't know which of her friends know one other. But after that I put the tables were I wanted them. My Mom's family is super small and fits all at one table so that is easy. I would NOT play match-maker for your single friends. Seat them with their friends so they can have a nice time too. Let your FMIL give you a list of who sits with her from HER FAMILY and HER FRIENDS ONLY. Then ignore her other comments and don't offer any more information.

Re: how do you spell A-N-N-O-Y-I-N-G!!!!

I think it is great that you rearranged the tables the way you and your FH want--but BEWARE just a warning my cousin' s MIL changed the table #'s during the cocktail hour--ridiculous huh-- but no one knew until people were seated and then of course it was too late--so best advice keep FMIL out of the room until she is announced in!!!!!

dkga and Laura...

ROTFLMAO!!! I never thought of doing that! You're right, it will be too late and then what is she going to do? She is not going to throw a diva fit in the middle of your reception infront of her friends!
