How do you state no children on your invites!!

Original post by JuneBabyBride

I have my invites done and I am doing the clear labels for my envelopes but how and where do I state for the few that have kids that would bring them even though the invite doesn't say their names that they can't come?

Thanks

On my reception card it says

'Adult Reception will be held at
Leonard's
555 Northern Blvd
Great Neck, New York

Cocktail hour begins at 7:30pm'

I hope they get the point without me being rude about it. I thought that this was a nice and fromal way of putting it.

I agree!

nsgraham that is a great idea i wish i would have thought of that... After my invites went out i got alot of calls 'can i bring.......' I thought by writing it out on the inner envelopes would be good enough but of course it wasn't... Some people are just so oblivous!!!

I just have to say - I was talking about this with a friend last night and I don't know why - but when I see 'Adult Reception' - it justs reminds me of 'Adult Video' - like it's something pornograpic! That's just what pops into my mind when I see that. I never said I was normal!

Seriously - we don't have many who this will affect so I am planning on 'word of mouth.' We are getting married and having reception at same place so I am not having reception cards - if I was I would put it on there - put I just don't want it saying 'Adult Reception' on the actual invite.

I think this whole no kids thing is going to be the bane of my existence. What is the big deal? Why on earth would u want to bring your kid to an adult party with alcohol?!!!!! I just don't get it. I thought married couple lived for evenings together. Take advantage. HIRE A SITTER!!!!!!

I am having the same dilemma - Ive decided to do the word of mouth thing instead of writing it on the invite, but we are getting a baysitting for the out of town guests and we are going to have the info on our website. Hopefully people will get the hint. My FSIL wants to bring her 11/2 year old - i said no way.

I have heard that some couples actually hire a babysitter for the night to watch the guests kids......I think they hang out in another suite or in the bridal suite. I dont know how long anyone could keep a bunch if kids in a small bridal suite, though!

I have friends that are going through the same dilemma right now.. One friend has a 7 month old that does not take a bottle and asked if she could bring him so that she could feed him... ( this same girl had her husband come out in a HUGE snow storm and drive 45 min with the baby to my friends shower just so that she could feed the baby...

The other have a child and the wife NEVER leave him alone . he is 18 months. The response are due in 4 days and the husband is a groomsman has not yet responded... they think that they are going to bring this kids with them...

I think people have nerve.. unless it is a major emergency( babysitter cancels, can not find anyone to watch the child) and they contact you before that really should be the only reason.

People are stupid. I'm sorry, not all of them, but a lot, more than you would think. Sometimes, you have to be blunt.

I'm actually writing in the # of guests people can bring, cause in my family, my adult cousins have come with their parents AND brought DATES!!!!!

I'm writing:

__ seats have been reserved in your honor

Word of mouth should also do it. But really, a lot of people don't know/care about etiquette.

Nadine:

I am giggling like a little school girl right now because my family is the same way. It's tragic, but they're idiots. They would bring all of their damn children, and some random date that I've never met, so I have to SPELL it out for them as well. Unfortunately, in my family, we have a lot of 9-14 year olds. I mean a lot. I'm not feeding them! Not to mention, getting married on a yacht, I can't have any horsing around, and someone goes over board!

So, I like your idea of 'blank' seats reserved in your honor. I think I'll use that as well as Adult reception. Hopefully they'll get it!

Thanks ladies!

On the reception card, we are doing something along the lines of
'please join us for an adult reception'

The only kids there will be those in the bridal party

I completely agree !!! - But unfortunately not everyone thinks this way and people DO show up w/ there kids - and the woman who won't let someone else feed the baby ?? - ONE bottle won't kill the kid ! jeeze !!
I think the best way to do it is just to tell them NO when they call to ask , or write it on the response card.-

Hopefully common sense will prevail...on the invite you are only supposed to write down the guest names who are invited....actually stating anything else on the invite is not proper however you can do what I'm doing on the RSVP card state: Guest Invite Only - this should cover guests with children and guests who think they can bring an extra or pass along your invite to a mutual friend of yours. Good luck

I find it amazing that people can be so dense or nervy that we need to find so many different ways to explain something that should be so clear cut. The people on the invitation are the only ones who are invited! In our case, we are having no kids under 5, and even as far as that goes, it is only my nephews and our cousin's older kids. Both my mom and FMIL have let the families know that. It's a good thing to let it be known in advance so that there is no chance of confusion.
