I have my invites done and I am doing the clear labels for my envelopes but how and where do I state for the few that have kids that would bring them even though the invite doesn't say their names that they can't come?
Thanks

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
The inner envelope should state the names of the people who are invited, if it only says Mr & Mrs John Doe, those are the ones that are invited.

You don't. The only way is to address the invite only to the specific people you are inviting. Then try to spread through word of mouth that it's an 'adult reception'.

What about in the case of mr. smith and guest and they aren't dating anyone and they have a child, they would probably assume they can bring their child as their guest.

Don't bring your darn kids, this is not the place for them, find a sitter or don't come and learn to respect people's wishes and ignore what I stated. Disrespectful. I hate people that do this, can you tell.
On the reception card it was stated, Adult Reception or something to that effect. I did not state it on my invitation. They have it on the reception card where the reception is being held.

Word of mouth and specifically on the invites, inner and outer envelopes. I am not sure out the guest being the child. I will ask around!

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
i did the word of mouth thing and put only the names of the people that were invited. i still had my cousin bring her 1 year old to my wedding and although she was cute she wasnt invited and i have crying baby in lots of scenes in my video.my sisters were also pissed off because i told them they couldnt bring the younger kids and then my cousin showed up with hers. i would do what shamma did and put adult reception!!!

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
I don't have reception cards because I am having my ceremony at cresthollow and my invite states reception immediatly following, and they are also printed up.
How can I maybe get away with putting something on the clear inner envelope tab, just for a few people I think would do this?
Thanks for all the help!!

When my friend got married, she put a little card inside her invitation that said 'adult only reception'.

I put 'Adult reception to follow' on my response card.

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
i think if you invite someone 'with guest', you really can't control who they bring. we had a HUGE problem with this about a week before the wedding. since it was game 6 of the world series, all of a sudden, none of DH's uncles could make the wedding. all of his aunts ended up bringing their children instead. and those were cases where the invites were clearly labeled Mr. & Mrs. if people are going to bring a child, there is no tactful way to stop them, unfortunately.

Honestly I think there is no way to tactfully say something - You could just let it go until they RSVP and then say IF they try to bring their child as their guest - that you are sorry but children are not invited and that it is a adult only reception and they will NOT have a good time.
Could you simply NOT invite them with a guest so they get the point and don't bring the child? If you are really concerned can you have a family member put out the word that children will not be at the wedding

I agree with most on here... adress it to Mr. John Smith and Guest.... you can't write 'no children as guests' I think that it is word of mouth. Hopefullly most people will assume that it means no children

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
i would say to spread it word of mouth that its an adult only reception..
i could see how they might want to bring their kid if they think kayla will be there..

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
Well some people are family and friends but don't really talk to other people to really spread the word. I guess the few that I am worried about I could possibly put adult only or something like that.
Kayla will be there b/c she is my life and I wouldn't have it any other way but that is the exception b/c I am the bride and I get to decide who goes,

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
You DO NOT put anything like that on the invitation- Like the rest of the girls said, the people invited are those whos names are on the envelope- and No One else ! - Ask your mom or aunts to try to help you out w/ that one re: word of mouth. - it can be done tactfully that way w/o putting you in a position to have to be rude or uncomfortable - and i know how you feel - I have a few family members like that as well-

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
I got my invites today and I saw in the book 'Adult Reception to Follow' I am having children at my reception. But I really see nothing wrong with putting adult reception on the invite!

Re: How do you state no children on your invites!!
People are stupid. I'm sorry, not all of them, but a lot, more than you would think. Sometimes, you have to be blunt.
I'm actually writing in the # of guests people can bring, cause in my family, my adult cousins have come with their parents AND brought DATES!!!!!
I'm writing:
__ seats have been reserved in your honor
Word of mouth should also do it. But really, a lot of people don't know/care about etiquette.

On my reception card it says
'Adult Reception will be held at Leonard's 555 Northern Blvd Great Neck, New York
Cocktail hour begins at 7:30pm'
I hope they get the point without me being rude about it. I thought that this was a nice and fromal way of putting it.
