How do you tone down highlights?

I just got back from having my hair highlighted and my hair dresser didn't put any low lights in ..... just highlights...... so my hair is SUPER blonde!!!! I am now trying to figure out a way to tone this down my next week.

He's on holidays starting Monday and he said he couldn't correct it today since he just finished coloring it.......it would damage my hair.

Can anyone give me some advice?????

Why can't they put on the toner for a little longer?

try one of those non-permanent colors like L-Oreal ColorSpa...or maybe Nice N Easy color boosting glaze...they are color rinses that come out after a few shampoos...i've used them to cover gray and in between highlights...

Can they do that once the product is rinsed out? Is that something that I can do at home??

I'm worried about adding more color in my hair because he said it was too soon to fix the mistake he made..........

Crap! Skip the color boosting glaze!!! I literally used it last nite...and right on the box it says 'Not recommended for highlighted hair!!!'...i would say just go with the blonde & embrace it...last time i git highlights it was lighter & more than i wanted, but ended up getting alot of compliments on it.

when i get my hair highlight it takes a couple of days to process. It should tone down on its own in a couple of days (usually 4-5 days).

Do you have a picture??? I bet you still look gorgeous. I wouldn't do anything myself, only let a hairdresser fix it, you could do somehting that may not work/reast well with you hair.

Get a little sun tan and everyone with think you've been lounging on the beach or at the lake instead of relentlessly planning a wedding!!

My FH told me to go to the tanning beds a few times before the wedding to make it look a bit better too.....hmmmmm, maybe I should just do that, and also, see if it tones down a bit in the next couple of days .........

dye it a blonde not too dark, just a bit darker than highlights and lighter than base color, you should have a hint of highlights when you dye it.

Re: How do you tone down highlights?

you should have another stylist/colorist do a glaze over it to tone it down. i dont believe one more thing will be the end all be all and damage your hair. tons of ppl have to correct things the same day. id def look into another salon if youre worried. i wouldnt do it myself. im sure it looks just fine tho!

Thanks girls! I am going to take all of your advice........I'm going to hold off and see what happens. IF it's still too bright then I'll go somewhere and see what they can do.....oh the fun things in life! lol lol

I think toner would definitely help! I know sometimes when I get my hair just highlighted w/out the low lights its way too drastic. I do believe the longer you leave the toner on the dark it could be. I would NOT buy a box of dye though to cover it up. You have a few days before the big day to get it fixed!!!!!

Toner will def help... i got my highlights done and it came out not as light as i wanted it but the woman made it all different colors around my head and toner evened it out and made it look really nice... good luck

If you still are not happy with the color after a few days, I recommend LIz at Madison Taylor in Garden City - - she does my highlights and is terrific. Maybe just a few low lights would do the trick. the number there is 516-877-1117 HTH

Def. have them put a toner/glaze in your hair as soon as possible. THis way you can wash it for the next week and the colors will balance out. I glaze is good for you hair (it conditions it and makes it shiny). My hairdresser also puts a treatment in my hair everytime I get highlights and it makes my hair feel soooo soft. If you need a great hairdresser that is not too expensive let me know. I have one that I send everyone to and they are always very satisfied He is excellent with color!

i would just wait until he can redo it, and it should be free this time since you dont like it.
