How do you Word Attire for Engagement Party Invites?
Hi Ladies
My FH and I are having a backyard engagement party this August and are looking for the appropriate attire. We have found online Dressy Casual but don't like they way it sounds?
The party will be at night under a white tent, we are trying to get as much of a romantic/formal feel as possible. We do not want anyone thinking b/c it is in the backyard that flip flops and jeans are okay.

I did the exact same kind of engagement party. Under a white tent with cool lighting, live musician. I wrote cocktail attire on the invite... everyone wore cute dresses and button downs for guys.. it was perfect!

Thanks! I was originally going to write Cocktail attire but I was scared guys would come in suits and girls would think they had to come to dressed up...I just would like comfortable but not dress down. I think I will stick with Cocktail Attire!

This is a tough one.
Personally if I read cocktail attire I would absolutely wear a suit. I'm not saying all guys would do so, but a sizeable portion would.
I think 'Dressy Casual' works. What are you ideally looking for both guys and girls to wear? Also, is this something that can be communicated by word of mouth instead of on the invitation itself? Sometimes you can get these concepts across better on the phone.

Def think dressy casual is the best. If i saw cocktail in the attiar i would get dressed up

When I put cocktail attire, people asked me what to wear if they didn't know in which case I would tell them a button down would be fine. I would rather have them too dressed than not dressed enough.
