How early is too early to start looking at dresses and bridesmaid dresses? I posted on the main board and people seemed to think I am looking at dresses WAY too early. I'm getting married in a little over 12 months.
I thought wedding dresses can take up to 8 months to come in? I found what I think is my dress, but plan to order it when I'm home from med school over Thanksgiving break. Is this really that early? My aunt thinks I'm cutting things close. I'd rather have the dress in early than late.
What about bridesmaid dresses? Is it too early to choose them now? My bridesmaids found a dress they like and some have gotten measured, so I was hoping to get that ordered in the next month or so too.
Am I early? late? on target? How far in advance did you do these things or do you plan to?

I am getting married a week before you and already ordered my dress. My dress is a maggie sottero and they take longer to come in so I'm glad I ordered it this early

i don't think it's too early to start looking at all! I'm going in 3 weeks for my first appt. and my wedding is next nov. I figured since i'm picky and so unsure of what i want (There are way to many different styles i love right now) that giving myself more time would be better than waiting. I say you go whenever you are ready!! good luck

Trust me, it is definitely not too early! Your RH and your dress is the first thing to look for, it took me around 6 months to find my dress! I'd suggest that you start looking now, there are some 09ers looking for dresses and that already have theirs!

Thank you -- people were kind of like 'wow why are you looking so early?' and it made me feel silly. I'm only in NY a few times a year, so I have to work around the med school calendar.

its really not too early.. i got my dress in Jan 07 for june 08.. my girls just ordered their dresses about a month ago!

i think whenever your ready. its betterto start early so you have plenty of time to go from place to place and try different dresses on. it took me 2 months of looking to find 'the one'. so i say its never too early!

I am getting married in oct 08 and got my dress in july of 07. I have it already. People made me feel silly too - when it just happened to come out in conversation once at work that I had my dress before I booked a hall, some @ss said, in front of MY BOSS, 'That's putting the cart before the horse, don't you think?'
I really wish I had come up with a smart comeback on that one. That is something I lack in general - smart comebacks ... but I digress ...
Do whatever you want and don't let anyone make you feel this way. It's YOUR wedding, you can buy your dress whenever you feel lke it!
I think now is a PERFECT time for you to go shopping. One year in advance is a good amoutn of time.

I was trying to put off dress shopping because well, I hate any kind of shopping. But I was told I better get shopping because some designers take longer than others and you may have to pay extra for rush shipping. Conveniently! Anyway I'm getting married a month or so after you and I finally made my first appointment for this weekend. The only thing I like less than shopping..... shopping with my mother yikes!

I wouldn't say its too early at all. I planned on getting married next summer, so I went dress shopping ASAP, and I fell in love with a dress and put a deposit on it. Now, we figured financially 09 will be better...so I got mine WAYY in advance..but I love it so I'm happy I did it!

It is not too early for dress shopping. I ordered my dress in June and I am getting married next July. We just decided on Bridesmaid dresses last week but aren't ordering them til Jan. b/c some want to lose weight. So you can order now or wait a little while for BM dresses but I would get your dress soon.

It is NEVER too early to start looking for dresses !!! I bought my dress 15 months before the wedding date.
