How far ahead before your wedding...

did you block your rooms? I have 6 months till my wedding and am just getting around to actually blocking my rooms. The'discounted' rates I'm getting are so far $145-$165 per night. I thought that was pretty high, no?

well we are getting married at an INN-- so we allready have that taken care of but 6 months should be good you will have to let your OOT guest know where the rooms are blocked...

I blocked pretty early, about 10 months ahead. I think the pricing depends a lot on the area. My discounted rate is $139, but I've been to weddings on LI where the rate was $169. If there are other hotels in the area, price them out. If not, book it.

I think it depends on when are where you're looking. If you're not a holiday weekend (we were) than 6 mths should be fine.

I blocked a year before but my date falls on the 4th of July weekend so some hotels were blocked for that date. The biggest problem I found was people did not get back to me I wound up going with someone who replied quickly to me.
You should do search of the posts on hotel blocking I think there was a post about what hotel/how much/what time of year to give you a better idea of how much rooms are going for.

I am at my 5 month mark & I just finished blocking them off! We got a rate of 145 too

I booked 6 months ahead and my guests are paying $183.

I did mine in august and we are getting married 11/06

the rate is 199.99 a night

I already blocked mine. I figured October is a busy time and I got 2005 rates. Miine were 129 per night

We blocked about 10 months in advance. Rooms are $130. A few other places we looked at were $150-$160 though.

I just blocked mine a couple of weeks ago for $119.00! SO I did it at the 4 month mark.

We did ours a year in advance. But all of our guests are OOT, so we needed to get two hotels quickly. Our rates are $109 and $129.

I booked mine last month - well over a year before the wedding and it's $169 (LI Marriott in Uniondale). I was shocked by the price!!

Just an FYI - the hotel blocks ended a month before the wedding for us, then the rooms are released so anyone can book them after that date. I sent a 'reminder email' to the OOTers I thought might be booking, so they wouldn't miss the deadline.

I am getting married on Friday (oh boy) and I blocked them last august ('04). My guests are paying $115 a night which is really cheap--we blocked the Hyatt Windwatch. It worked out for us because we blocked right before they changed hands & now they are a 5 star hotel. I don't know where you need rooms but if this is a close hotel talk to Connie she is the greatest---she is one of my favorite vendors.

I blocked around 8 months in advance and my wedding was on a holiday weekend but those rates sound pretty average, if a little on the high side, for LI hotels.
