How far ahead before your wedding...

Original post by Brainy29

did you block your rooms? I have 6 months till my wedding and am just getting around to actually blocking my rooms. The'discounted' rates I'm getting are so far $145-$165 per night. I thought that was pretty high, no?

I blocked rooms at 2 different hotels. I finalized things this month. So I did it 3 months before the wedding.

We blocked ours off about 8 mths in advanced. We actually were just going to start looking then, but went to the first place and they were already booked completely that weekend...Breeder's Cup. So, we found a place and blocked rooms right away.
Our rate was $135 standard room - $155 for suites.

my rate is $145 a night at the holiday inn in westbury. i was upset because that's a lot more than i thought.

for those of you with $200 rooms, are you offering a cheaper room for people who can't pay that? i can't imagine having my guests pay $400+ just to stay at the hotel. i know i wouldn't be able to do it.

we block ours in Sept and we are getting married in June.....we did 3 hotels...one is $109 per night, $139 per night and $149 per night.....and the good thing is is that if all the rooms aren't booked we don't have to pay for them...which helps cause i need all the money i can get

I am looking to do that now... although, you need to have a certain number guaranteed otherwise you have to pay later if you don't fill them... make sure you can.

All the hotels I've contacted said if we don't fill all the rooms by the date we agree on, we are not responsible for the cost, they just release the rooms. If your hotel is telling you that you have to pay, you may want to consider a different hotel. You shouldn't be obligated to pay for rooms that don't get booked.

This is not true for most hotels!! Neither of the hotels I used required I pay anything at all for blocked rooms that didn't get booked.

I blocked my rooms a year in advance. It was a busy weekend and they filled up very quickly.
