people are telling me its way to early but the bridal store i want to get my dress from told me it should come in about 8 mnths... and then all the alterations and whatever.... how far in advance did you all order your dresses???

I ordered my dress about 14 months before my wedding date- I was told my dress will take 8-12 months to come in and then I need time for fittings.

i ordered my dress at the end of feb 2009 and im getting married in oct 2009. a lot of places told me i needed to 'hurry up and get a dress.' i ordered my dress at rk bridal and it will be in by the end of may, plenty of time for alterations (they suggested my first fitting should be 7-8 weeks before the wedding).
it takes many places 6-9 months for dresses. rk bridal's dresses usually take a lot less time for delivery. maybe because they are a huge wedding gown store... not really sure why, but the same exact designer dresses come in sooner there than the smaller shops. i was told my dress would take 7 months to come in in a different place.
i guess its never to early to start looking and order it, but do know there are lots of options and you dont need to have the dress a year in advance.

I ordered mine at the end of MAy for my early May wedding and it came in In early December

I bought my dress 14 months before the wedding, took a year to come in and then last 2 months i had for alterations. Dress came in march but i started alterations beginning of April.

I ordered mine 6 months before...it was the last thing I did. I know many brides order theirs a lot earlier but to me that seemed crazy - I thought I'd change my mind, if I ordered too early and I also wanted to drop some lbs first...the dresses I liked at RK Bridal all said they could be in within 3-4 months max so that seemed to be fine to me. Mine's due in April so I'll have 2 months for fittings.

i ordered my dress in september and we got married in january....four months before.....no matter when you go in they will get it done for you....i do suggest more time than i had just so you don't stress about it like i did

5 Months. I cut it close. But it depends on the dress manufacturer and how fast the store is with alterations. I don't need too many alterations. I would check w/ a few stores because a lot of them lie to you just to get the sale. I had so many pushy sales women that tried to get me to buy the first time I saw them, because they knew my wedding was close. I ordered from Fantasia in Rocky Point. They were the nicest and the only ones who didn't push me to order and gave me an honest answer.

That's exactly what I did. I ordered my dress WAY too early and ended up hating it when it came in. I ordered a different dress about 6 months before my wedding. It came in in plenty of time and was sooo much happier with my second choice.

i ordered in april, for my january wedding. i think it came in early october and i started alterations in late november with the final fitting a week before the wedding.

I ordered it last month (about a year). I did this because I know it's a process and I wanted to be sure I had it way in advance. I am too paranoid of problems. That's just me. I know I'll second guess myself whether it's a year or a month in advance. We are women, we change our minds lol
