We haven't registered yet for our 10/4/08 wedding.... are we late or are you supposed to register closer to your wedding date?

Re: How far in advance do you register?
really no set time. You may want to start a registry somewhere for some staples such as fine china, stemware and kitchen stuff. That is if you dont already have these things.
People may want to purchase you an engagement gift and if your having a shower, you may want to be registered before that. I wouldnt rush but I would start thinking about it.
FYI - this is just my opinon. like i said, there really are not set rules.

Re: How far in advance do you register?
I'm getting married about a month after you and haven't registered yet. Everyone keeps bugging me about it, but I feel I have so many other things to take care of before registering. I don't think there's any date that you must register by. You just really need to register before your shower. Even if your shower is a surprise, it's usually 2 - 3 months before the wedding, on average. I'm sure if your shower is coming up and you're still not registered, your bridal party or mom would start getting on you to go and register!
I want to hold off on registering a bit cause I feel like if I do it too far ahead, some items may be discontinued by the time people go to buy (I noticed that a lot when buying gifts for my friends' weddings). I'm thinking of going in May - which would be 6 months before my wedding.

Re: How far in advance do you register?
Do it now!
I waited a long time and FH wanted to do it right away, and he was right. As soon as we registered, my mom couldn't resist getting us a couple of things as an engagement present (and we'd already been engaged for 10 months). My aunt got us 2 things out of the blue. And a friend of mine got me our coffeemaker to thank me for some last-minute babysitting.
Plus, if you register at Macy's or Fortunoff, you can enroll in their rewards program where everything you buy with their credit card (whether it's off your registry or it's just some dish towels you needed) you get a percentage of money back for. This is what ticked off my FH - we bought $1000 worth of stuff from Macys when we moved this summer, and could have gotten money back from it, had we registered there earlier. My bad.

Re: How far in advance do you register?
We got engaged last February, and had our engagment party in May (in PA) and June (in LI) and registered in April. I don't think it makes a difference. If you aren't having a party then be careful registering early cause a lot becomes discontinued.

Wow, I don't know when you're supposed to register, but I started right after we got engaged..hehehe now I just add a thing here and there if I think of something..
I would think you should register a few months before, especially if your shower is a surprise...

Re: How far in advance do you register?
well the registry is more for the shower, you'll see most people buy you gifts off the registry for the shower...so i would say register about 4-5 months before your wedding since showers are about 2-3 months before the wedding

Re: How far in advance do you register?
We registered right after we got engaged and lots of people got us gifts from our registry for engagement gifts and even holiday gifts! There's really no set time, but if you plan on just doing it for the wedding, I would say by the time you send out the invitations the registry should be made because then people will start to ask!

Re: How far in advance do you register?
I am getting marrued in Dec '08 and we started our registry last night at Bed bath and beyond. We where there 2 hours and never even got out of the kitchen gadgets dept. I would suggest start as soon as you can and take it slow. Do it a little at a time so you do not get overwhelmed. If you are having an engagement party I would wait till after this way you will get money to help out with the wedding.

exactly. I still haven't registered and they are bugging me about it now because they're starting to plan my shower and they need to know where we register to put it on the invite.
we're going to try to go one night this week if i get out of work early enough. not even the least bit excited

Re: How far in advance do you register?
I have heard that you are supposed to register as soon as you get engaged.. But everyone knows that you have way too much on your mind... So for my July 08 wedding we just completed our registry.. we only did this because we have a big family and didn't want everyone buying something off of our registry for our engagement party and then have nothing left for my shower.. Hope that helps!

I registered right away but you can register about 6 months before. Definately not too late since usually the registery is for the shower.

Re: How far in advance do you register?
I worked for Fortunoff in the bedding department. You can register now if you'd like but we suggest waiting until 4 months before for bedding since styles are discontinued so often. I hated seeing the girls who loved their bedding get half of it and then not be able to get the 2nd half after their shower because it was discontinued! I'd register, but hold off on the bedding!
