My mom keeps bugging me not to find something too far, but the place we are considering is about 45-60 minutes away from the church. It's in Mt Sinai, and I kinda feel bad for the people that have to trek all the way from queens. Whats everyone's take on this matter?

Re: How far is too far?
when i was searching, i limited it to a 30 minute drive max. the place we chose is 30-40 minutes away depending on traffic, of course. the last thing you want, IMO, is for guests to be sitting in traffic for over an hour!
ETA: the hotel is also equidistant from the church to the reception as that was important to me as well...

Re: How far is too far?
Me personally, I wouldn't mind a 45 -60 minute drive for a wedding. I wouldn't want to do it everyday, but it's a special occasion.

I live in Queens and as a Queens girl, anything exit 53 (LIE) (& and even 53 barely makes the cut) and on is too far

In my opinion as a guest that is a bit far.
I know people say people will travel to go to your wedding, but remember that you most likely have elders and what not who will have to make that trip, and then back home again.
There are so many nice places on LI that I just think you could get something closer, but that's JMO!
Good luck!

honestly, do what you want. It's a one-time thing. People have more than enough time to make travel arrangements....I have traveled to NJ for a wedding...but that's just me.

where is the church? It should be less than an hour from there, IMO
I'm from queens, and I've traveled all the way up to west point for weddings!

Re: How far is too far?
We live in Queens and we picked the Meadow Club in Port Jeff. Almost 1 hour away. First I moved up my church from 4 to 3 and then my cocktail hour is at 7. That way we will have plenty of time. We are also getting a bunch of hotel rooms at the Hampton Inn in Brookville for us and anyone else who wants to stay. The next day they give you breakfast and you get to hand out with the guests.
GOOD LUCK

Same here. I've driven to South Carolina for the weekend, for a wedding. If people want to be there - and more likely than not, they do! - they will make it. It's one (special) day. Do what you need to do.

Re: How far is too far?
The only problem is I cant seem to find any decent catering halls within a 30 minute radius. The only ones that I like are all out east - exit 56 and further off the LIE.

Re: How far is too far?
what about renting a party bus or something for the guests so they don't have to drive??

Re: How far is too far?
Just be prepared that is you do go a distance from the church (hence having to make the ceremony early) people who it is a hike for may just come to the reception.

Re: How far is too far?
My church is in Brooklyn and my reception is in Massapequa about a 30-45 minute drive. I figure that those that can make it will come and if not then I understand.

Re: How far is too far?
Ok I totally went through this. More than half my guests are coming from Brooklyn and its about 1-1:30 drive based on traffic to the ceremony/reception. Granted they don't have to drive after the ceremony. The others are flying from Chicago and Iowa. I am doing a motor coach bus for the OOT guests to and from. This was the one thing that made me question having it here, but the way I see it - how many times do i get married. I don't know if I've ever looked at an invitation and thought, 'Hmm, let me do a mapquest search. Oh its past my 30 minute drive, not gonna make it'. People will come, they might whine a little but they'll come.

Re: How far is too far?
I say pick the place you want. My immediate family is in Queens & I have more family coming from NJ. My church is in Queens and the reception is in Woodbury. It's one day. The way I see it is if people want to be there it won't be a big deal to them.

Re: How far is too far?
Instead of a party bus, you can arrange to have coach busses pickup and drop off at an agreed upon location (a local school or something). As far as the distance goes, I don't think an hour drive to a wedding is that bad, but if people need to drive a a while to get to the church and then an hour to the reception, I think that may be a bit much. I live in White Plains and we're having the ceremony and reception at the same place (Exit 41 off LIE). It's about a 35-40 minute drive with no traffic and I don't think that's too bad. I just hope noone gets stuck in traffic because that driving time could easily double.

Re: How far is too far?
I think you should have your wedding where you want to have it and people will come b/c they want to share in your special day. If they don't want to drive a little extra, then that is their problem. It's about you and your FI...

Re: How far is too far?
The only problem I see in this situation is that some guests may skip the church. If that doesn't bother you, then go for it.
