How far is too far?

Original post by divabride

My mom keeps bugging me not to find something too far, but the place we are considering is about 45-60 minutes away from the church. It's in Mt Sinai, and I kinda feel bad for the people that have to trek all the way from queens. Whats everyone's take on this matter?

honestly, do what you want. It's a one-time thing. People have more than enough time to make travel arrangements....I have traveled to NJ for a wedding...but that's just me.

My thoughts exactly!! It's your day - you can't please everyone!! Poeple who want to make it, will!!

I recently went ot a wedding where the church was in brooklyn and the reception was in the bronx. it was over an hour, it wasn;t bad. The trip between my sister's church and the ceremony was about an hour. My limit is, since I'm in Queens, anything in Nassau is fine, so it'll be an hour, max.

Go for it. People will travel for weddings. Someone mentioned the elderly-if there are grandparents or some people for whom it's really an issue then maybe someone can give them a ride. That's not really that far anyway.

Our hall is about a 40 minute drive to the reception...I wouldnt go much more than that IMO but if you love the place, people will travel!
I would expect to have a smaller turnout at teh church though if its a hike, maybe you could consider getting married at the hall to limit add'l travel

Well Most of my guest are traveling, so I can't pick somewhere all the way out east.

I think take into consideration how far most of your guests are having to travel and then decide if it's too far I think 40 mins should be the max, in general.

It's no biggie.. if they want to be there, they will.. you may get more people at your reception rather than your church, or who knows, maybe you'll get alot of people at both.. do what you want!
