I am just wondering how honest people really are, especially with good friends. For example, a friend gets a haircut, and you hate it... do you tell them the truth or do you feed them the 'It looks great' line?
I personally find it hard to be honest in situations like that because I don't want to hurt the person's feelings, especially someone really close. Just curious what other people do in similar situations.

Re: How honest are you really???
Depends how close I am to the person. My best friend (we’re close) yeah, I tell her she’s stupid and she tells me I’m suicidal. It’s ok. Brutally honest. Most other folks I am still pretty bluntly honest, just not so brutal. Folks have feelings and I try to take those things into consideration.
But haircuts are sorta tricky. I mean if you don’t like it, you have to figure that person does, right? So I’d just say “How do you feel about the hair cut?” if they say they like it well then I say “good” if they say something else I say “no worries it always grows back” or say something encouraging.
I live by the idea if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything. But that doesn’t mean LIE and say something you don’t mean. Now if I see a guy or girl with a nice hair cut I honestly like, I’ll say something “hey that looks really good on you”. I know one guy at my office thought I was hitting on him when I said that!!!
Generally speaking, I just don’t lie. Another motto of mine:
“Don’t ask me questions, if you don’t want honest answers”
Fair enough?

I usually don't tell them I hate it. I get around it by saying it's different or a nice change or something.

Hmm thats honestly dependent on who the friend is and the topic. When it comes to real life issues I can be brute honest but with a heart. I have hurt a few feelings but my 'friends' know that I tell them as it is and usually this helps them make informed decisions. Now when it comes to someone asking me if they are fat..I dont come out and say yeah. I say something like.. I have been feeling fat too. MAybe we should go to the gym together.

it depends on the friend totally....some of my friends take criticism really well, and WANT honest opinions when they ask for them...other friends are asking for an opinion just as a self affirmation......
i usually find out who is who the wrong way.
one thing you should never do when someone gets a bad haircut though......Laugh uncontrollably. my brother did that to my sister once and she's still scarred from it.....
