I put my payment in the fist week of November, they send me a letter yesterday saying my account is past due. DUH you cashed the check. Now my mail and ride account is frozen and I have to buy next month's ticket at the station.

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
That happened to me last month!!!
Except I paid with transit checks - I have no idea if they cleared!! And no way of getting the money back since it's through my paycheck.

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
I'm a commuter also...and this has happened to me and a friend of mine. She had received her Mail & Ride bill with a $10 late fee and one night the train was about 15 minutes late, so when the conductor came around to check tickets, she said to him 'Well, can I ask for my money back? You're late.' He couldn't help but laugh.

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
It is just so annoying, and it's not like the service on the Ronkonkoma line is great either. Aggravation for a low fee of $250..what a bargain

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
I couldn't agree with you more. It's like we're paying more and getting less. I'm on the Babylon branch and so far, every night this week, the train has been at least 10 minutes.

Ugh, this stinks! A co-worker of mine this happened to as well! I love their late fees, ha, that is a joke in itself!

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
I know this is such a stupid thing - but I never take my ticket out when I see the ticket taker coming. I make them WAIT while I open my bag and dig out my wallet to show them the ticket. I don't kow how much time I wait or lose because of the LIRR and this is my teeny tiny way of bugging them, even if it's for a second.
Some days when the trains are late & short (ever notice that's mostly on rainy days?) I don't even think they deserve to see the ticket at all.
I just hate the commute!!
Then you get off the train and you're in Penn Station!! But that's another thread

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
LOL Christine...I do the same thing.
The best was last week and they overshot Brentwood station by 2 cars and those people had to walk back to get off the train. The people were pissed (rightly so) and the conductor was giving them grief saying he was only human and suck it up. I swear I though they were going to kill the conductor. They should learn by now when the train does something stupid they (the conductors) should just hide in thier little room.

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
Ok my thing is I take my ticket out once show it to the conducter - he/she are supposeed to put one of those I saw their ticket thing in the ticket holder - but I am gonna say only 20% of them do this - it just annoys me that I have to go into my bag / wallet 2-3 times because they dont want to do their job properly. The more times I take it out the more likely I am to lose it.

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
I dont do mail and ride ( I charge it to get points -- plus I dont use the subway that often) anyway, I just wanted to jump on this bandwagon. I agree that the service is HORRIBLE!!! I can not write on this board how I truly feel becuase it is not rated PG! Anyway, last night I was on the train (babylon line) and yes again it was 10 minutes late for NO APPARENT REASON! but not only that the conductor was rude when asking for tickets and the car was so filthy people were walking out! I pay 226 a month for horrible service and the worst thing is there is nothing we can do about it! We have no alternatives really!!!
(THe trains have been late so often lately, lets not even talk about the 2x in the past month that it has taken me over 2 hours to get home when my normal train ride is supposed to be 58 minutes!!!) AHHH sorry for venting!

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
vent away - they are not going to listen. Every morning I mentally compose a Dear LIRR letter. It must be nice to have a monopoly LIRR, just because the good people of LI and Eastern Queens have no other choice but to use your service is it any reason to jack up your prices, delay us getting to work getting home. Do I deserve to be stuck in your tunnels for an hour with no explanation of what is going on? Do I deserve to get locked into your lovely Pennstation when you have soo many delays that no another person can fit - also with no explanation. I would like someone to pay me 2,400 a year for me to kick them in the shins on a daily basis.

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
Oh jeez! I just started commuting and you guys are scaring me. I have noticed that the train never leaves on time and I'm lucky to get a seat lately.
p.s. Is mail and ride supposed to be cheaper?

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
You get a 2% discount with mail & ride. I think more if you buy metro cards with it.

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
Dont be afraid, I think its obvious we have all been riding too long and therefore are just disgruntled. I didnt mind it for teh first year or so, now after 3 years I may just hurt someone. Plus jacking up the fares really got me angry!!! Now its like a second car payment.
I though mail and ride only had a benefit if you also got metrocard but I just noticed I was wrong, but after your experiences I am afraid to sign up!

You get a 2% discount if you don't have a metrocard with it If you get a metrocard on it, you save 9%.

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
For me its the short trains that get to me....especially in the morning. Geeze...we are on the train standing for 25-30 minutes on top of eachother like sardines and then the conductor has the nerve to squeeze by and make everyone shuffle through their belongings looking for their ticket. Its a nightmare...if i dont get a seat and there is no air or lights....you dont get to see my ticket.
I also dont get why every morning we stop for five minutes to let trains pass us to get into the tunnel....we do this EVERY morning...why dont we just go first since we arrive first every morning???

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
Ohh the complaints that you ladies have are the SAME complaints that were being said 15 years ago when I started riding the LIRR!! You would think that something would have been done.
Actually, not being a BIG fan of the LIRR, I must say that that service is better than it was some 15 years ago. Penn Station was the dirtiest place on earth!! I wouldnt even take out $$ to buy a paper for fear of getting mugged!! The trains were filty....I dont think they were EVEN cleaned!! Forget about being on time...I think back then...ontime meant 'as long as we get you there!!' I remember MANY times standing waiting for the train, a train pulls in, then the annoucement that the train is BROKEN and is being taken out of service!! ARghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............
I feel your frustrations, I have them myself! But just think, if the LIRR could inprove themselves 20% in 15 years....just think what its going to be like in the year 2060!!!!

Re: HOW I HATE THE LIRR
Wow Lisa - Thanks - that was eye opening !!! I remember going into Penn with my Dad when I was little and he would be like hold my hand tight ! I also remember him telling me that the trains were so late somedays they had a booth to get excuse notes for work ???
I guess we have it better now - I am grateful for that much.

OMG....yes...I remember the booth!! it was more hassel than it was worth!! but if you had a boss that was a jerk...you needed to get a note!! I think they will still do that for you!!
