How is everyone handling going from table to table at the Reception?

Original post by madseason

Any walking in with a battle plan? Im trying to get as much done as CH. What is everyone doing? I assume brides and grooms still go from table to table...

It's harder than you think! We had a lot of guests (~290) and we had our battle plan all laid out. We went to part of cocktail hour to start the hello's and we were immediately swarmed. We had three rooms for cocktail hour and never got through the first room.

We did want some alone time during the reception to just look around and take it all in. That was something that was recommended to me by all my married friends...to take a moment during the reception and look around and remember the room and all the guests. That's the one picture you'll have in your head forever. So during our appetizer and salad courses, we did our first dance, toasts and spent the rest of the time to ourselves.

We intended on spending about an hour during the entree to go around and say hi (that was another rec....to do it during the entree because people would be too busy eating to want to talk....didn't work!!!!). It took us almost 2 hours to make our way through 20 ish tables. We don't even talk that much. But everyone wanted a pic with us and everyone wanted a hug.

At the end, we only had 45 min for dancing :( But in hindsight, it was okay....we're glad we took the time to say hi to everyone. But yeah...our reception timeline went completely out the window.

Ok....this is totally hypothetical...

But would it be an AWFUL idea for the DJ/band to announce that the happy couple is excited to dance and would love to say hello/meet-n-greet on the dance floor?

Then go around to those who don't dance and say hello? Don't get me wrong. I'm not a total jackbag. I have manners and understand etiquette. We are also going to our CH and plan on saying hello to guests there....but I'm wondering if there's a way to cut down on 'the rounds' during the reception...? (Maybe some married gals can give advice?)

I hope this isn't going to sound completely inconsiderate...but to spend all of that money and not enjoy it all? I dunno. I want to ABSOLUTELY say hello to everyone and talk to them...but I want to find a better way to do it....?

i totally understand how you are feeling

BUT if you are NOT going to do it just dont do it, dont call attention to it

i had a great experience with it, so i am biased and i think you should do it. if i had jen's experience maybe i would be telling you not to

i think its rude not to BUT i am old fashioned and honestly maybe i have been to weddings where it wasnt done BUT i didnt notice bc the B&G at least said hi to me. . .

wow

I went to a wedding where the bride sat at the dais most of the night and just kind of looked around. I went up to chat and to congratulate her and she gave one word answers so I left her alone. If I hadn't already placed my card in the card box I might have been tempted to pull out some of the cash, to be perfectly honest.

I never got a thank you card either.

Wow...that's very rude!!! Don't want to be That Bride...sorry you didn't even get a thank you card

I haven't really thought about it but FH and I will be at our CH so we will 'start' our meet and greet then. We are having only about 110-125 people so I think we will def. get to greet everyone.

No no - I hear you. I'm old school too. I notice if a the B&G don't come over and say hello...I don't think there's any way around it. I'm sure we'll just go table to table.
