How is everyone handling going from table to table at the Reception?

Original post by madseason

Any walking in with a battle plan? Im trying to get as much done as CH. What is everyone doing? I assume brides and grooms still go from table to table...

i went to my CH but honestly since they werent at 'assigned' tables there i couldnt remember who we had talked to

So, between salad and pasta ( i think ) we did DH's side. We started from those closest to the dais ( most important ) and then continued to the back.

then we sat and ate a little and then between the second two courses we did my side, front to back.

THEN after we got that out of the way ( before the entree was even served) we were able to dance or sit and chat with our friends.

i was a little bit pushy about it - and i also had great bridesmaids. . .they would take the envelopes and put them in the card box so i wouldnt have to go back and forth

We are not doing the thing at the church (forget technical name) and we are not going table to table. I was thinking about after first dance getting on the mic and saying a general thank you. I don't want anything taking time from us having fun.

what about saying your hello's at the CH? just asking bc i know some guests get upset if you dont personally say hello.

that's true. someone actually told my MIL that we didn't get a gift from them b/c we didn't go to their table.
oh well. it makes me wonder if thats the case with other people too, but honestly I had a blast and wouldn't exchange dancing with my nieces for DHs grandfather or my dad/brothers/friends... for any amount of money.
(thats a lie, but we're not talking the kind of $$ that'd make it worth it )

i wasnt sure if i wanted to attend CH or not bc although i know it will get alot of hello's out of the way. I want some alone time with Fh before the reception. I mean the first time ill see him is in church lol then we'll be with our families and BP taking pics, so i want to just have a moment with him, let it all sink in, take it all in and have some alone time since most of the wedding we dont really have that. Im sure our BP will like to go to CH so they can do that, while we get our 30 mins or so. I wasnt 100% sure until this past weekend i asked fh if he wants to attend CH or not and he said NO!!!

so maybe i should come up with a plan to say our hello's at the reception

DH wanted to go to the CH for the same reason
but for us, it didnt work out. its like you say hello to a few people right? and then those people are sitting at a table with other people who you didnt say hello to. . . so when you get to their table - you are going to say hello to the whole table ANYWAY. . .

or there were people we couldnt remember if we had said hello to

or some couples, the husband was still getting CH food so we only saw the wife

etc. so it didnt work out for us ( although i know many people do it and it works for them )

thats EXACTLY what i thought about too and mentioned on LIW recently. Even if i say hi to some ppl at CH, if i go to a table where somebody i didnt say hello to is sitting with ppl i did say hello to, not like i am going to just ignore those who i did say hello to and just walk right by them so i figure since fh and i dont have a desire to be at Ch we're going to miss it. I mean everyone feels differently about this so no right or wrong but for me personally it means alot to me to have some alone time

We're def. going table-to-table and not attending our CH since we want some alone time. I don't think we have a plan of attack. I was thinking I'd do photos with the photographer at each table and use that as my 'hello' time but I don't want to be rude and leave too quickly. I think it will work itself out

i kind of wish we had more alone time at the wedding but DH was in full party mode, it was just an awesome party to him once church was over so every time i tried to get him to have some alone quiet time he turned into a little boy and would get so upset LOL so i let him go and be social!!!

Re: How is everyone handling going from table to table at the Reception?

ive always gone up to the bride and groom and said my hello then or on the dance floor - at our eparty we had 90 people and we said hello to them as they came in - we saw everyone before the party even 'started' - im hoping something similair happens during the CH - that we get to say hello to almost everyone before the reception - once FH and i start drinking and dancing we are in the zone and the only way people are going to see us is if they come dance with us - thats how we are - we want to party and too bad if i didnt get to talk to FH's 3rd cousin that i never even met before but 'had' to invite because i know i will be sure to say hi and thank everyone we know and see on a regular basis - same for our OOT guests that we dont get to see that often, im going to be excited to see some of those people - but im sure there will be people there that i dont even know and im not going to stress myself out over talking to them - FH can talk to them

We're going to try to get to half the people at our CH and then try to get to the rest when everyone is sitting down while appetizers are being served.

FH and I won't be at CH since we are going to be taking pictures. I told the photographer I want pictures with each table, so we'll be saying our hellos then.

we plan on doing one side during salad the other during dinner

We're gonna try and chat with as many as we can at the CH and get some 'mingling' in on the dance floor. FH is a chatterbox and LOVES attention but he loves food more so he is determined to be that one groom in all the world that actually ate something at his wedding.

We did it. I'm glad that we did, and it didn't take very long. We did it during dinner while everyone was seated, and asked the DJ to continue playing dinner music until we were done.

wow

I went to a wedding where the bride sat at the dais most of the night and just kind of looked around. I went up to chat and to congratulate her and she gave one word answers so I left her alone. If I hadn't already placed my card in the card box I might have been tempted to pull out some of the cash, to be perfectly honest.

I never got a thank you card either.

We're doing as much as possible at cocktail hour. Also, the combination course choices are not our favorite and we probably won't eat them, so we figured this would be a good time to talk to some people!
