How long...

Hey! Just a question for everyone. How long after you got engaged did you pick a date and a venue? My FH and I were talking about this today and I want to go look at some venues and pick a date but he feels like we just got engaged less than two months ago and that we have time. I know his parents were engaged for like 5 years or something close to that . I am absolutely not waiting that long lol so I am just curious how long were you engaged before you set a date and picked a venue?

We had a place booked in less then two months, one of his cousins got engaged a week before and another two days after us so it was a rush to get your time a place before someone else took it

we booked about 5 months after we got engaged but it depends how long you want to be engaged for. we had our e party about two months after our engagement and then about two months after that began looking ... a month later we booked ..

We got engaged Dec 6, 2009, and we have a hall booked. We knew we were going to have a short engagement and wanted to get married this summer, so we had to move quick!

ETA: I started looking at places on line about a month after..weeded some places out and made a list of the ones I wanted to see

I was engaged 12/25/08, had the date like 2 seconds after we were engaged , booked the church 3 weeks after we were engaged, RH was booked in Feb of 2009.

we knew we were going to have a long engagement, so we waited 1 year before we even looked at venues. I started to look online beforehand to get an idea of places we'd like to check out, but we didn't start making appointments til 1 year after our engagement and then booked within 2 months of starting our search.

engaged for about a month before we started looking at venues. We booked our place after 2 days of actually visiting places. I also wanted to get married where my parents were married, so the location was pretty much a given. It was just picking the right date that took awhile.

I was booked within 2 weeks of getting engaged. I waited 8 years for a ring I was not waiting any longer LOL

Plus he could not back out this way LOL

Thanks girls I feel a little better now not everyone booked so quickly. I am going to start looking this month at some venues.

We toyed around with what month we wanted for a few months (we got engaged April 2009)... decided on April/May and then we went to see our RH around August, saw their prices and then decided on May 7.

I got engaged in 2008 late part of the year and book my venue in august 2009

Hi Girls...I'm new to this board.

I have been feeling the stress of booking a venue too, even more so because I got engaged on 12/19 when I was back home in NY but my FH and I live in Los Angeles. We plan on having our wedding back in Brooklyn or Queens, so I'll be planning everything from the West Coast.

We want to get married in the summer of 2011 and are super flexible with dates but I feel like I need to book now, especially before the flood of Valentines day engagements begins.

we got engaged in April and didnt book till October- but we started looking about 2/3 months after we got engaged. It all depends on what you and FH want to do. I know a lot of people who looked and booked within a month of their engagement
