Well im getting married next may, so its about year and 2 months, people have been telling me to start looking at the year mark, other people tell me to wait like 8-10 months before the wedding. I'm not sure how long until i should really start looking, i want time so im not rushed at the end.

You can start looking as early as you want but my suggetion is do not buy it too early (10 months b/4 your wedding).

depends on where you plan on getting your dress. some dresses take awhile to order from manufacturer and then sent to the bridal boutique. on average, i think a year to 10 months before is a good time to purchase something. as far looking, you can look anytime you want. it's always nice to get some ideas of styles and fit to best complement your body.

it took me 10 months. but i only went to 2 places and the second place, I bought the dress.

It depends. I mean I agree with the other girls not to buy it too early because what can end up happening is you love your dress but then you have waaaay too much time to see other dresses and you start wondering if its 'the dress'a nd you may even hate your dress. (Went through this several times.) I bought mine like literally almosta year before the wedding and now I regret it-haste makes waste but the price was right and its's fine. Just don't wnat that to happen to anyone else.
BUT then again, if you plan to get married during high season (spring-early fall,) you want to start looking no later than 8 months before the wedding because if it takes you awhile, you will be cutting it close when it comes time to order. Some places can take 4 months if its intricate. Mine was simple so took about 2 1/2.
What you can start doing now is just colelcting photos ofwhat you might like and create a file so that when the time comes, you are more organized and not totally overhelmed.

the earlier the better this way you get an idea of what you like. I bought my dress last year in June and my wedding is this June.

I am waiting till April getting married next march. I didnt want to do it this early but someone told me to get around 9-10 months before because i want them to add sleeves and may alter the dress in that way. Personally I would hold out till June/July for the new designs that are comming out and i amy just look in april and not buy till july.

I bought early I guess- But it was fine for me.. I got engaged in December '04- bought my dress in February '05 and didnt get married til July '06. I would say go looking earlier, get an idea- have fun, try gowns on- but I would buy at the year mark since some gowns DO take a long time to come in and you dont want to have to pay rush charges

I was engaged in July didnt start looking for a dress till September - purchased in October - getting married in May. If I had known I would have waited to purchase my dress in January so that I could have a 2007 dress instread of 2006.

it all depends on what type of dress you are going to get and the designer...I am also getting married in may of 08 and i bought my dress last weekend and i wont get it until next march...My dress takes a year to make since everything is handmade...Other designers do it by machine so that would take 6-8 months and some even 10 months or close to a year even when it is by machine but most likely it will be 10 months or under.
If you buy a couture gown which basically means handmade then just remember it can take up to a year

I got married last may and ordered my dress the previous may. there is really no time frame, just make sure you leave enough time for the dress to come in and do alterations.

No prob... DId you order from Kleinfelds? First... I told them my wedding date is May 1st (gotta make it earlier). I called them the end of Jan and they said it wasn't due till April... Pretty much told them that's impossible so they put a rush on it and next thing I knew they told me it was in and will get shipped to my parents early March (just in time for the first fitting) The dress is a Marisa. LOVE IT!

You still have plenty of time so you don't need to lie about the date. You can't start the fitting till 6 to 8 weeks b4 the wedding. They don't allow too much sooner. Who made the dress?

OMG I absolutely loved them...i had heard some bad stories, but honestly they were the nicest people ever...Never asked for a price range, she went out of her way to help me withthings, and the funny part is i wanted a dress that was more expensive but they convinced me to try on another one(the one i have) bc they thought the other was too big for me, and they were like plus its less so why not save money too...they were amazing, even stayed open after closing hours so i can finish...Ok im done with my kleinfelds rave lol

We only had a 11 month engagement so I got on it quickly and ordered by 10 months...depending on designer time will vary on how long it will take for the dress to come in...I would think a year to start looking would be fine.
