How Long Did you Date Before...

You got engaged? I'm curious about this. So many Hollywood couples seem to date for a very short time before taking this step, but I suspect outside of Hollywood, it's a longer period of time.

FH and will be at 9 years when we get married but we are HS sweethearts and needed time. My MOH dated her DH for 10 months by the time they were married. If they were more supported by their families it would have been better but seems to be working out.

As for Hollywood, I have a friend who works in the TV biz and the buzz there is that the stars get caught up in their characters or 'relationships' that are set up for publicity and as creative people I think they fool themselves into these rolls and believe they are truly in love. I think Bennifer and Tom and Katie Holmes fall into these categories...there are those that do find love tho...

The standard for healthy couples that I have seen, if they weren't friends before hand, about a year of dating and about 6 months engaged. But that's just approx. Sometimes there's too much pressure to get married!

3 years and 2 months. When we're married, we'll have been together for 4 years and 3 months.

7 years!

Us too. We met when we were young so 7 years was about the time we were finally ready to take the plunge.

6 months dating... got married 6 months later... just had our 6 month anniversary!

FH proposed after almost 4 years together, we have been living together for almost a year and a half!

We dated over nine years! Yikes! I was ready years before but my FH needed some time to grow up before we he settled down. I'm glad I stuck it out because he's great!

just about 5 years. we were in college when we started dating. needed some time to get good jobs and save money! it will be 6 years when we get married.
