How long after your engagement did you ask your bridal party? I feel like my friends are waiting for me to ask them but I have something special planned so I don't want to just blurt it out to them. I also don't want to keep them waiting and wondering, you know? We have been engaged for two months and are getting married in 15 months. Thanks!

I asked some of mine right away because we celebrated my engagement with them that night. When is your something special planned for? Is it soon? If so, then just wait
there is no time frame. I didn't see one of my cousins right away but I waited to ask her because I wanted it to be in person.
I was waiting for this for soooo long that all my BM's knew their place in my wedding.

I asked my MOH right away and waited about 3 months for the rest. No reason for the wait...just wanted to make it special when I did it.

I'm not sure when you're supposed to ask! I am going through the same thing though. I've been engaged for about a month, but my wedding isn't until 11/25/05 and the only person I've 'asked' is my maid of honor!

Oh, I just wanted to add, that one of my friends (who was married last May) told me to wait as long as possible because a lot can change over the course of your engagement. She had a 2 year engagement and one of the girls she asked to be in her wedding party she barely spoke to by the time her wedding rolled around! So, I guess I am taking her advice on that one!

This September we will be asking everyone (one year from the wedding). We'll start with the MOH and BM and then drive over to Buffalo to ask two friends and if we decide on two more people then they will be the last once we return.

I made the mistake of asking too soon...Relationships do change..I've gotten closer to one person in the past year who I feel would appreciate being a part of my wedding more than one who is in it..I will try to incorporate her.
Another friend is soo wrapped up in her own issues right now that she has no time to do anything-she's never come to look at dresses and could care less. I told her I understand if she'd rather come as a guest b/c being in a wedding is time comsuming and expensive but she said she wants to be a part of it..
When I look at my photos years from now I dont want any regrets

They all knew within the week that we announced it. We planned it that way since it was Christmas. We celebrate Christmas at midnight which is when we announced it. My cousins were with me so I gave them surprise presents that were little white teddy bears in a wedding dress and it held a banner saying 'will you be my MOH, BM, JBM'. I called my sister and asked her to be my BM, but she flew down last month which is when I asked her to be my Matron. I also asked my SIL over the phone when we told her the news. Other than my best friend which was a bunch of drama, all the girls knew right away. Dont be pressured to do it right away. You'll know when the time is right!!

I asked them via e-mail right away as I was anxious to start on our wedding plans. Our engagement was 1 1/2 years but time flies and I received three (3) rejections for one BM position which I had to scramble for a replacement. Without wasting time I asked right away, all others who rejected my BM offer were their loss.

Thanks everyone! I heard the same thing about how relationships change from my friend - she asked three girls who eventually backed out because they no longer were very friendly. However, I cannot imagine things changing that drastically with my girls... I have known all of them a very long time. But I guess you never know. I don't want to regret my decisions
I'd like to ask them all within a week or so of each other, that way they don't hear that I've asked people and wonder why they have not been asked/ We were planning on having a party to ask everyone (BM and GM) but thats like 15 people. Good luck coordinating 15 people's schedules! So, I was thinking of asking them one at a time but it could be several weeks before I see them all! Dilemna!

I never asked my MOH, she just knew, we have been talking about it since we were little girls. I have 3 BM's, One I asked right away, maybe 3 days after we got engaged (she is the one that now had to step out because she is pregant and due 5 days after my wedding) One, I think it was about 2 months, one 4 months because I wanted to do it in person and the live in PA. I sometimes I wish I would of waited longer. (I am not getting along with one of them so well these days)

i got engaged late sept. of 2003, and my wedding is may 2005, and i just couldnt contain myself , within 2 wks after we asked

I asked my MOH and my sister bridesmaid right away. As for the others, I waited till I saw them in person. For 2 of them it was ablmost 2 months later.

I asked one on Christmas over the phone ( We got engaged 2 weeks before Thanksgiving), I told her on Thanksgiving about the engeament. The other one was at my house on Christmas, but I wanted to ask teh MOH first, so Iwaited, and couldn't get her alone with the holiday chaos going on. I called her about 2 weeks later, so I guess that was about 2 months after we were engaged.
By the way we should probabaly start a thread about GM. My FH asked his BM in January in person, but still hasn't called the OOT GM. Although he might know because his brother is the Best Man.
