I would like to BF for 6-9 months. My goal is 6 months, but of course a lot can happen.

My original goal was for one year. When I found out that I had to go back to work, that changed to 6 months. I made it!

I nursed dd for 9 months. I had small goals and kept making a new one every time I reached a goal.

LOL Michelle! That is exactly why I stopped with my last son! He bit me so hard that I bled. It wasn't his fault but my god the pain!

My original goal was 6 months - I did it for 8 weeks. It went fantastic for both of us from day 1, but when I had to return to work for a few weeks before resigning, the pumping thing just didn't work for me...so I weaned him onto formula...even though I liked breastfeeding, I can't honestly say I regretted moving him onto formula.

I would like to do it till he is a year. I'm lucky because he will come to work with me, so the girls who take care of him just have to bring him to my office when he needs to nurse

for both my girls i did 4 months..its tough in the beginning, but dont give up, hang in there..its soooo worth it..

NIHA - FYI I got my period back 7 months pp

I wanted to do it for a year...and the first week is the toughest.
I still wish we were bfding..but I could not keep up with Julianne's needs...even tho I pumped at work.

so- for us it was nine months.

and YES formula DOES cost a lot!
she goes through a 12 oz powder container a week

For all of you who are going to try bfing, I have two words....nipple cream! It was so hard the first few weeks. I was so soar, chapped and black and blue. When Adie would cry to be fed I wanted to cry too it hurt so much. I really don't know if I would have continued if I didn't get the cream.

I hope to for a year, until I have to go back to school. But we will see how it goes. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing you can predict.

For my someday baby #2, I hope for at least 6 mos, but I will start my goals small and go from there...

I BFd JA for 3m, my goal was 6m, but I had very tough times, and slowly supplemented till he kinda weaned himself...
My goal for baby#2 is 3m at first, then hopefully I'll shoot for 6m

We were just joking about this, this past weekend. My sister's son has just weaned himself (he's 17m) , which makes her BF duration time NONSTOP since June 1999 !! (3 kids in a row!) yep 4 1/2 years!
Too bad she wont have milk when my baby#2 comes along she 'helped me out'
when I was in pain w BF JA, and we had both just given birth, so she'd grab him and nurse him for me..

Anyway, I hope to go for my 3m goal first.
