I would do it as soon as the hotel will let you which is probably about a year in advance. Better safe then sorry, esp if your wedding is during peak travel time on the island.

We booked ours 10-11 months ahead, right after we booked our reception location...

I booked my hotel rooms 5 months in advance. I would probably give more time, though you may encounter some hotels who will refuse to block rooms until your date gets closer. Good luck!

I blocked my a year before my wedding. I started pricing them and looking at the rooms much earlier than that though, but I wasn't able to block until a year before. My theory was you never know what else is going on the day so do it early so you are not sorry.... But I'm a worry wart!
