Dh and I have been looking for 2 months now.... Curious about how much longer this will take!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know it's different for everyone but I'm getting depressed here that it will never happen...I know everyone keeps telling me it will but it's gets annoying hearing that again and again!!!!! I call every day on different house and speak to my realtor daily as well.... So please don't tell me it will happen..when it's meant to be....

im getting frustrated too..... its tough cause there are so many houses to weed out, then out of the good ones most are already sold. then the remaining ones one of us doesnt like....

We have been looking seriously since December.
We aren't desperate, so were are going to wait till we find one that is right for us.

We felt the same way you are feeling when we were going through the 'process' of finding a home.
Every home we looked at we were disgusted, or it just didn't have the things that we wanted.
We even had realtors tell us we would NEVER find what we wanted in the specific price range that we desired.
I was so depressed hearing that...but we just kept making more and more appointments looking at homes...and then it happened, we found our dream property (the house wasn't a dream, it was a wreck, but the property was exactly what we wanted).
I just think you should keep at it...make appointments for as many homes as possible. We picked up every real estate magazine available at the supermarkets, and we found our home in Harmon Homes magazine.
My friend is going through a similar thing. She said something interesting to me the other day, every month passing by that she doesn't have a home just means there's more money she puts in the bank for her down payment.

It took us about a year and a half of me looking full-time with 3 realtors and using every other resource available (Realtor.com, LIMLS, real estate mags, you name it!)
We 'stumbled' upon our home. It wasn't anything we were looking for, but our realtor pushed us to go see it since it had just gone on the market that day (every home we were interested in sold within one day or we got into bidding wars.) We were reluctant, but went to view it anyway. We ended up making a bid in the driveway. We basically purchased the home for the location and property.

We looked EVERY weekend for 4 months! Saw over 50 homes! But had looked on and off for about 6 months! The only house we liked enough to make a bid on was ours!
I know you dont want to hear it but when its meant to be it will happen! We saw a few homes we were on the fence about and wanted to see a second time! 2 were taken off the market before we could make a bid and 2 were bid upon before we got the chance! I remember being really upset about one house specifically, but the house we found is SOOOO much better I am so happy those other homes didnt work out!
I was so frustrated that we would NEVER find a home FH and I were ready to throw in the towel and on a few occassions I think we almost did but we got really lucky! Our realtor found our house, we saw it that day, made a bid the following morning and had it accepted by that night! However, it fell through shortly after and I practically cried. We knew we would never find a house that would match up! But they came back to us a week later and now we are closing on that house!!
Keep your chin up, I think its worth that frustration when you find your home!!! Good Luck!

More than 9 months - over 135 houses. Bid on 8 and got the 9th. Chin up - it is out there! Do yourself a favor and whip out the yellow pages. Do google searches on all the real estate agencies. Find their site and bookmark it and look every other day. If your realtor can't get you the exclusives, you can find them first.

DH and I were casually looking when we found the home we bought. We were still scouting out towns and going to random open houses (we must have went to at least 50 in many towns). Then we found a house and didn't want to let it pass even though we weren't planning on buying for at least 1-2 more months. So I am not sure where I fit in the poll. Casually looking for about 2-3 month but bid on a house 2-3 months before we planned on buying (I was trying tyo time my buying with the apartment lease we were in).

We easily saw over 100 houses. We started looking in July, took time off after October and started looking again in February. We found our house on the first day out!! It takes a lot of time. If you're getting frustrated you may want to consider taking a month off to clear your head. It helped us a lot.

We started looking in Dec '02 and we found a home in Mar '03. We didn't close until June '03.
We found 2 other homes first, but we lost out due to bidding wars.
Be patient. You will find your home!

between figuring out what state we truly want to live in and than what town on LI can we afford and really want to live in

It took us a little over 2 years but we took a lot of breaks b/c we just got so fustrated and needed to re-evaluate.
The house we bought wasn't even on the market - it was one of my dad's customers and it wasn't what we really wanted but now it is definitely home and we're very happy.
My advice is to look at EVERYTHING b/c what I said I didn't want in the beginning is what I ended up with in the end and I'm loving it.
