How many Bridesmaids are you having?

Original post by samnjenna

Just wondering.

Recently saw a post where a lot of past brides said they had wished they hadn't had such big bridal parties.

I'm having 5 (including MOH) and I NEVER thought I would have more than 2 or at the most 3. I love all my BMs (especially the ones who are reading this post!), but I know the more people you add the more complicated things can get.

Then again the more the merrier -- especially when it comes to the Bachelorette party!

What do you think?

Re: How many Bridesmaids are you having?

I just had an MOH. My aunt is only 2 years older than I am and is really like a sister to me. I just didn't want to have all of those girls around - I only had 5 months to plan and I didn't want to deal with conflicting opinions or the problems of having 4 or more girls together all of the time. Besides, had I chosen other people, they wouldn't have all been close--they would've been from different groups of friends, family, etc, plus from all over the country and I know it would've been hard for them to plan things like the shower or the bachelorette party...does this make any sense? I also didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings by asking some and not others. And OF COURSE it was a big money saver because there were only two bok's to order, only one gift to buy, etc.

I took pictures before the wedding with my mother, my MOH and my grandmother - 'my girls' because we've always all been really close! and I had my grandmothers escorted by the grandsons as part of the processional to beef that up a bit and I got the mothers and my one grandmother nosegays instead of corsages (the other grandmother got a corsage because she walks with a cane and it would've been hard for her to carry)

Only MOH, just didn't want to deal with 7 girls and all they differences expecially after i heard how bad some bridal parties are

This was my feeling too. Also, I am older, most of my friends have been married quite a while and are past the point where they want to be a bridesmaid, I think.

I 100% agree. I am also older and most of my friends are married with families. The last thing they need right right now is to disrupt their lives dealing with the issues of planning showers so I am keeping it small.

My sisters are close to 50 years old and they sure as heck do not want to be in bridesmaid dresses. Not to mention that one is a size 2 and one is a 24. The size 24 would not feel comfy in the same dress as the size 2. And I don't like hodge podge everyone-wearing-the same-color-but-not-the-same-dress type of bridal parties. My family will be represented in the BP by my neices and nephews. So now they (my sisters) can pick and choose what they like - they are fine with it. So this means if MY 2 sisters and sister in law aren't in my BP, then FH's sisters are not either. Everyone is fine with it. I am having:

1 Maid of Honor
1 Matron of Honor
3 Bridesmaids
1 flower girl

FH is having:

1 best man
4 groomsmen
3 ring bearers

Girls:

2 MOH's (my two sisters, who are older (45+) but I couldn't imagine my wedding without them)
1 BM (my best friend since 7th grade)
1 Jr. BM (my oldest neice)
1 FG (FI's youngest neice and god-daughter)

I'm having 1 MOH (my best friend) and 5 BM's (2 are my sisters and one is FH's sister), 2 flower girls (oneis my neice) and two RB's (my sons). Not sure about GM's yet, but will be including my brother and my nephew somehow!

I'm happy with the numbers considering many of my wedding party lives far away. Only 2 of my BM's are on LI.

Re: How many Bridesmaids are you having?

I am having 1 MOH, I bridesmaid and 1 junior bridesmaid (my 12-year-old cousin).

I have several different groups of friends and the BP (aside from cousin, of course) are in one, my oldest. I could include some girls from other groups but I wanted to keep it simple and uncomplicated --esp. the dress shopping! I figure a few trips to go shopping when both of them have similar taste will be ideal.

I will prob. include my other friends in other ways, like as witnesses to ketubah signing or holding the huppah (no one in my BP is Jewish).

I am only having a MOH. It is my niece who is 5 years younger. We grew up together. My fiance is having only a best man - his older brother. We don't want bridesmaids or groomsmen because we don't really want other people around us (privacy!) or to be the focus of attention.

My two older sisters (one is 15 years older and the other is 21 years older) wanted to be my MOH, but I couldn't choose between them, so I picked my niece. That way they can enjoy the wedding and not have to 'work' it. I'm not having a traditional ceremony (no religion!) so there won't be readings to do either, but hopefully, I'll figure something out to include them soon.
