How many halls did you see?

Original post by lilxolaur

Hi Brides!

How many halls did you visit before booking the venue?

Was there some major turnoffs at some of them?

Thanks in advance girls!

Almost 20 but we were so clearly in love with 2 that we just kind of drove past the last ten or so.

We saw about 15 there was somethings i loved at each and then others i was like are you kidding me who would get married here? I love that the Sandcastle goes with my Cinderella theme and that its only one wedding i am def at true Princess and love being the center of attention and details matter to me. I just went to a wedding last month and waited over an hour for a drink so i was very certain to have lots of waiters and stuff and sandcastle offers that

We saw four. Our first was the Swan Club, which we ended up booking. FH loved it so much that after we got our quote and talked about the details, he wanted to put down the deposit right then and there! I reminded him that we needed to shop around, and we saw three other places a couple weeks later...then we returned to the Swan Club to book! It was kind of one of those things...we walked in and could envision the entire event taking place and were picturing our friends and family having a great time there.

We saw 10

Flowerfields - wasn't crazy about the ballroom b/c it looked like it needed a lot a decor (it is more of a canvas I think for someone who wants to do alot on their own). The CH area was awesome though.
Westbury Manor- loved but wouldn't accomodate a ceremony on sat night
Woodbury CC- liked but nervous about closing
Fox Hollow- same no sat eve ceremony
Villa Lombardis- too many friends booked there and didn't want to repeat but still checked it out
NHP Inn- No sat night for us during summer!
VIP- Thought the big ballroom was TOO big and the small one too small for our party...
Surfclub- Thought the BM was a total a$$ and were weary of promised renovations
Beckwith Pointe- just not our style although the view from the ballroom was awesome
Fountainhead- booked and LOVE it. Everything we wanted and the the BM had a sweet 16 going on while we were touring and said, 'you guys hungry'? We ate salmon and filet mignone for free and it was to die for- we gave a deposit on the spot.

Oh and to answer your question haha I kind of went off... some reasons we didn't book places were-
Outside decor (one place not on the list we did not even go in b/c I hated it)
Unwillingness to negotiate AT ALL
Car salesman type attitudes
Renovations that were 'promised' but not in contracts
Chapel/ ceremony accomodations
We considered whether it was one bride at a time but also if it wasn't we did not just dismiss it b/c a lot of places you won't ever see the other party even though they're there
Bathrooms - one thing I don't like about the hall we picked

We saw 3 (Marina Del Rey, North Ritz Club and Westbury Manor) and for some reason I knew in my gut that WM was going to be the one before we even saw it. We went there and both said we could just picture our wedding day there. We loved it right away.

We only saw two on LI, and three in Staten Island. We booked the second to last one we saw.

We didn't like one of the ones we looked at on SI because we felt like you didn't get a lot for your money.

One we just HATED the decor

The third one we liked, but didn't love.

The first Rh we saw on LI was ours, and FH was ready to put down a deposit as soon as we were done looking around. We just thought you were getting a really good value, we loved the people we were dealing with and we loved that it was one wedding a time.

The other one we saw we...well...hated. The BM was really condescending, we thought the price was a lot for what you were getting and it just seemed really chaotic there (we went on a Saturday afternoon). I know a lot of brides have looked/book there, so I won't say where it was, but it just wasn't our cup of tea.

HTH!

I didn't look at Sandcastle b/c we had JUST gone to a wedding there with FH's whole fam but I will say I had the BEST meal I ever had at a wedding there. I LOVED the steak. It was a NY strip I think and it was seasoned DELICIOUS.
