I am trying to set up my hotel blocks, and I have no idea how to figure out the number I need.
I'm all stressed out b/c I don't want to block too few and have guests shut out of the hotel, but I don't want to block too many and end up footing the bill if we don't meet the guarantee.
Is there any good way to figure this out? Do you think most people will book the hotel when they get the Save-the-date or procrastinate and wait until the last minute?
I know this is vague (sorry!) and feedback is appreciated!
ETA: The wedding is right after July 4, so I'm worried about the hotels all being booked up...

some hotels have a limit on how many you can block, so you should call and ask ahead of time.

I think I was allowed 10 at a time. A few of our guests booked before the invites went out but most waited until the last minute.

With my hotel, I don't have to 'guarantee' any specific number. I blocked 10 rooms--if they are not booked within a month of the wedding, the hotel will release them back to the general public. I incur no costs whatsoever.

I did 25 at 2 different hotels. They wouldn't block more but siad they would open it up if it got filled up.

I was only allowed to do 10, but wound up having a lot more stay there and it was not an issue.

I blocked 5 for July 8th and 30 for the night of the wedding July 9th..

I booked 5 or 10 for the night before and 20 for that night.

I blocked 15, which is probably a bit more than we will need. You should review your guest list though, and do a rough guest at how many people might want to stay overnight.

We blocked 30 per night (Fri and Sat, wedding n Sat night) at no cost to us. 4 weeks before the date, all unbooked rooms go back to the hotel. If we want to book some more, we can put a deposit down. This is at the Huntington Hilton.
