you were going to get engaged or had a feeling? I am normally a nail biter but about a month b4 I got engaged, I started getting my nails done. I had no idea it was coming but I think I knew to get ready subconsciously.

yea i knew it was coming. A few weeks before he actually proposed he took me to see billy joel at the garden and I thought for sure that was it! (even though he told me he didn't have a ring yet I was convinced he was lying to me! )

p.s. he didn't proposed there and I have to say I was kinda disappointed

but the night that he did propose was the same day as his mother's birthday and we were going to see Phantom of the Opera cause his parents bought them for us as a christmas present (that's what he told me though the truth is that he actually bought them himself cause he was going to propose).

The reason I was so surprised that night and didn't see it coming was because he always said he wouldn't do it on a day that was associated with ANYTHING else and knowing that it was his mother's birthday I was convinced that he wasn't going to do it! Boy was I surprised!

I told him a week before kind of joking around that if he knew me well and was the perfect man, he would propose to me on the following Sat. night when all of my college friends would be visiting and we would all be out together. He said...yea right...what am I going to give you a life saver candy ring.....you know I don't have the money right now..................I believed him and didn't suspect a thing until the moment I saw the ring. ..
Although as soon as I said that, without me knowing, he called his mother to yell at her b/c he thought she told me. I guess we were just on the same page.

I had no clue...after 6 years of dating I didnt think it would ever happen!
the day of, I was even telling him what kind of cut I liked and he told me he would keep it in mind...

I was totally shocked that it actually did happen, but ironically two of my other friends (from a college upstate) got engaged the day before, and I was wondering when it was going to happen to us, so I definately had engagement on the brain for like 30 hours straight--and then it did happen!

I knew that it was coming but FH said more like 2007 not 2006. We even got into an arugment on the way to Vegas on the plane. A woman that was boarding the plane had this gorgeous ring and I told FH to look at how beautiful it was. He started yelling at me saying that he didn't want to talk about rings and that he already told me it wasn't going to happen this year (2006) and that we were on vacation so I should stop ruining it. Well....I was sooo pissed off at him...he slept the whole flight but I was still mad at him. Then when he surprised me with the ring when we got to the place we were staying I told him that he really made me believe I wasn't going to get a ring until 2007!!!! I kept on asking him if it was really and if this was really happening!!!!

We never talked about when we were going to get engaged, and I didn't want to tell him what kind of ring I wanted...I wanted it to be a surprise...over the summer it came up when we were out, and he said that I would have no clue when it would happen, it is going to happen on a day when I didn't expect....so I knew he was planning something. He kept getting phone calls from his family, and they were shady, and he wouldn't tell me what the calls were about after he got off the phone...I knew something was up. He also asked me to check his cell phone voice mail one day, and his aunt left a message asking how diamond shopping went. I figured it was going to happen....

We went bowling with my dad, and apparantly when I went to the bathroom, he asked my dad's permission....
My dad TOLD ME that he was planning on proposing on New Years.....(He was drinking, I was pissed..)...I told my stepmom, and she told my FH to change the date....

Sure enough...I got home from work and he asked if we could take the dogs for a walk...thought it was strange, but went along with it...he was a little too happy on the walk, and I thought maybe he was going to ask me....and sure enough, he did! He said he wanted my dog to be there (he was 12, and getting old)...and we ended up putting my dog to sleep a month later. He knew how much my dog meant to me, and he thought it would be nice to have him there....so sweet!!
Anyway...

I am dissapointed that I knew he was going to propose...I really wanted it to be a surprise...but it was sweet nonetheless.

I knew he had the ring because we tell eachother everything. He even tortured me with it and put the bag on my lap. He took me to the city in December to see the tree and a horse and buggy ride. I thought it was gonna happen that night because everything was perfect. he even bought me a chocolate covered strawberry from godiva and everything. Then we were upstate for new years didn't think he would do it in front of his family. I was in jeans and a sweatshirt with my hair all messy. He always said he wanted to do it when i least expect it.

FH told NO ONE (not even his mother) that he bought a ring and what not.

We'd been together for six years at that point and we'd talked about marriage but I had NO CLUE he was going to do it when he did....it was an AWESOME suprise.

Same here...He told NO ONE (not even his mother)

We had been together for almost 13 years and I definately thought it would never happen...and truthfully didn't care...but now that I'm engaged...YIPPEE...I LOVE IT!!!!

I agree it was an AWESOME surprise and well worth the wait. At least I know he means it...he certainlly didn't have to ask...I never nagged him about it.

we talked about it a few months before, but i told him i'd like to get within the next two years. i thought he was going to wait at LEAST another year...i was soooooo surprised! and SOOOOO happy!! i was dying to start planning!!!!

I knew it was coming at some point b/c I picked out the ring, but I didn't know he was able to afford it at the time...it was a TOTAL surprise to me, his friends, and my friends

I had no clue. We had a big cruise planned for a few months after we actually got engaged so I think I had it in my head that thats when he was gonna do it. Boyyy did he throw me off! :)
