How many of us are house hunting right now?

How discouraging is it to see that you can afford the house but not the taxes? OR when you see a gorgeous house and a really c rappy school district! This is very frustrating!

I'm just starting to house hunt.... We are waiting for approval from the VA to say FH is an 'eligible veteran,' then we submit our paperwork to see if we can get approved... *Crosses fingers*

I'm sure I'll be in the same boat with you very soon!!! Let us know if you find something!

It's sooooo frustrating...Thats why FH and I decided to RENT a house at first...then we can take our time to find a house over-time. With the wedding coming up we sorta want to deal with only one thing at a time. Did you check out MSLI.com yet? They have some awesome deals!

Good luck!!! I remember my mom told us that after my dad got out of the army he could have gotten a 6 bedroom house in Malba for like $20,000 with no money down and my grandma told him he was crazy and he's never need that many bedrooms. That house would be worth somewhere in the millions now!

Re: How many of us are house hunting right now?

We are on the hunt for a house as well! It is so friggin frustrating what some people are selling their houses for!! Some of these houses have not been updated is 1889 and they want a ridiculous amount of money for it!!!!

Oh and I totally understand about the taxes.

Re: How many of us are house hunting right now?

We have to wait someone to buy FH's apt in NYC first. You wouldn't believe how hard it's been to sell! If anyone knows of someone interested in a studio in Murray Hill, FM me. (shameless plug!)

Re: How many of us are house hunting right now?

I seriously want to off myself right now. I am flipping out, and FH isn't really taking it serious and thinks we can wait until like September. Um, no. So I'm going to be living in a cardboard box dodging bullets somewhere.

This totally happened to us. We found a colonial we LOVED in 'Garden City'--guess what? IT WAS HEMPSTEAD!

Anyway, I'm done hunting! I have a tentative closing date of 7/15/09!

Re: How many of us are house hunting right now?

FH and I have been looking since Labor Day. It's so frustrating! We have a big downpayment, perfect credit scores, nothing to sell and we can't find anything we like or agree on.

We made offers on 3 houses that were all rejected. Those houses are STILL on the market though - I think a lot of sellers have unrealistic ideas about what their homes are worth.

One house we've been scoping out since September has been on the market for 2 years and they won't lower the price!!!!

UGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

Or they're just seeing if they can get what they want. The house we are getting was def holding out...but now they're to the point where they have to sell bc they need to move over the summer...

I loved loved loved this house online but unfortunately couldn't get to see it and love the one we got...but for any of you girls looking in Nassau, might be worth a look!

Hope this link works! BELLMORE HOUSE

See I think 9 -10 is horrendous but I think that's because I live in Queens where taxes are insanely low.... we live in a house that is ridiculously big compared to LI standards and our taxes are 3,000! And we're in the best school district in Queens!

We aren't really freaking out yet becuase my apt. is big enough for us to stay in for a bit longer, but we want out. It's just exhausting. We took a bit of a break over the holidays but got right back into it. I'm now ready to take another break - I can't stand it any more!

Another bad thing... on a decently priced house (meaning you shouldnt have to FIX anything) I'd automatically gut that kitchen. I hate it. I'm too picky for this. Especially when it comes to kitchens. I'm always watching HGTV shows with fh getting disgusted at the kitchens when they're finished with the renovations.
