How many of you are planning your LI wedding while LIVING OUTSIDE OF NY?
Any other out-of staters?
I'm in Pennsylvania for college and FH is going to be working in MD once he gets back from Finland (training).
We used to live in NY but only go back (to visit our parents) during the holidays. It's definitely a struggle having such limited time to visit halls and to get things going.
How are you all making out with the planning?

Alot of it I did while i was in NY....but now that we are getting closer it seems like i cant do anything bc im not back home!

I give you ladies credit. I live in NYC and I think it is hard planning a wedding on LI from the city. lol Good luck with the rest of the planning.

Haha, I'm the opposite: I live in brooklyn but am trying to plan a wedding by the Deleware Water Gap or central Jersey. It's murder! I'm really thinking of hiring a wedding coordinator, because it's so hard to do on my own. Just to drive out and look at places, we're traveling 2 or 3 hours - and some of the places are an hour apart from each other! it's taking forever. At least Long Island is like Wedding Central - you can't walk 5 feet without tripping over a catering hall in some towns, it feels like.
Anyway, I know how hard it is to plan for a wedding where you don't live: good luck!

I did...I drove up to NY at least one weekend a month for most of our engagement and thank goodness my mom helped out a ton..without her there is no way we would have pulled this wedding off in 10 months...we also did whatever we could (like buying my dress and invitations and pretty much everything else that wasn't vendor related) down here in VA....in the end I'm REALLY glad that we had it up there but let me tell you that our wedding was in July and I have NO plans on making another trip up there again until at least Christmas...

I did it! We planed our LI wedding from Los Angeles! It took a lot of patience, frequent flyer miles and help from family and friends, but it was WONDERFUL. If you have people whose taste you trust and who are willing to help, send them to some RHs that you are interested in - at the very least they can tell you if it's run down or really terrible. I also asked my mom to deal with the florist. I gave her some photos and ideas and she found the florist and did almost all of the communication with her. We met with her just once before the wedding to see our sample CP.

We're planning from DC. Thank goodness for $78 roundtrip flights on Southwest. They're definitely a life-saver.

Same here. I even looked for a place in NJ to avoid the hassle, but it just didn't work out!

I am planning from Philadelphia but drive to Li at least 2-3 times a month! I am also home sick but all my vendors have been great with answering questions via email and over the phone

same here!! ugg 1.5 hour drive each way = 3 each way on weekends when i have time to do wedding things...

planning from fl...yep, not that bad though i have all of my vendors, took two weeks in ny during the summer - just have the littel things to do

Yup, me too! Planning from NJ which really isn't that bad- only a little over an hour drive. I just go to LI on the weekends- I got TONS done. But I sure pack it in when I'm there! Limiting it to weekends stunk though cuz it was hard to see certain vendors. For instance, I never got to meet Twelfth NIght.

I am done with my wedding planning, but I planned the entire wedding from Dallas, Texas. I went to NY twice before the wedding and then for 1 week before our wedding day. The key is to be very detailed and OVER communicate with your vendors!

Currently in the DC area....Southwest is a life saver....flying back on Thursday for my last dress fitting and getting the marriage license.

I did my planning from CT not too far but it was challenging because most weekends during the planning process were spent on LI doing wedding stuff!
