After my CPA exam, I plan on teaching myself calligraphy. . .I like hobbies

If I get good enough at it, I'll attempt my own envelopes

LOVE this idea!! Hobbies are fun! - and since my fiance' and I are already homeowners....I would personally rather pay the electric bill than pay for someone else's handwriting...If you've got the dollars - fine - If not....DO NOT FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE TO ABIDE BY ANYONE ELSE'S 'ETIQUETTE'!!!!!! MONEY PRESSURE IS THE LAST THING YOU NEED IF YOU'RE HAVING A HARD TIME!

It's a lot harder than you think!! I tried to teach myself!!! LOL

Yelley, you're the one that gave me this idea when you posted about it awhile back~!!!!!!!

My MOH did that for her wedding. As soon as she got engaged she took a calligraphy class so she could do her own. They came out great and she really got great satisfaction out of knowing that she wrote them all herself. She was so happy.

They don't need to be perfect. I find crafty stuff like that relaxing anyway - as long as I give myself enough time, of course!!

Definitely. I'm sure hers weren't (I don't remember it was 4 years ago), but she definitely gave herself alot of time, I forgot to add that. She ordered her invites way early and just did a few each weekend. She said it was relaxing for her too...it was her quiet time.

Coleen, I'll take a class with you if you are doing that! (Or are you just going to get some books and play around?) I actually had a calligraphy set when I was young (like 8) and played with it then ... I would love to learn for real!

If this doesn't work, I plan on printing the addresses on a nice font directly on the envelopes.

I am doing my own calligraphy. I did it for 2 of my friends weddings. I ordered pens online.

I figure it is cheaper, just time consumming.

I am having my sisters SIL do them. She has amazing hand writing and will do them for cheap! She also just got laid off and needs the extra money..

Is she looking for extra work? How much would she charge?

I'll find out! I bet she would do them...

Seriously, I need all the help I can get, I don't know where to start because my printer isn't working and I don't have one at work anymore ;o(

For e-party invites i wrote them myself bc of printer problems. I bought a gold calligraphy pen and did it, i just wrote with regular hand writing but just did it nice and neat. Then theres also calligraphy or having the invite company you order from doing them for you at an extra charge

im not doing it to follow what anybody says. I am doing it bc my printer doesnt work and getting a new one is more expensive than paying somebody to do it. And another thing is i dont want to deal with them at all to be honest. After e-party invites just thinking of invites im about to lose my mind, they were such a huge PITA. If it were alot of money i wouldn't do it at this point but for under $200 and even under $190 ill do it. Sometimes are reasons have to do with other things. And i cant sit here at work and do this, the printers at work are constantly being used and i cant occupy it like that.

[email protected] offers amazing calligraphy at great prices. She does outside envelope, inside envelopes and placecards, for anyone that is interested. I'm using her and got her contact info from another bride on here that used her. She has the invitations back to you in a week! Email her if you are interested because she books up quickly. She's already booked into May! She does hand calligraphy and will send you samples of the diferent styles so you can pick the one that you like best.

Re: How many of you girls are doing calligraphy?

I only like calligraphy when it's really well done. I've seen a lot of bad calligraphy but good calligraphy is gorgeous and probably my favorite.

We decided to get our envelopes printed by our invitation company (Encore) because they had a sample envelope in the invitation book that was gorgeous -- it will be the same script as the script on our invites. It looks very formal and neat. I've attached a pic of the font.

I think printing it yourself also looks good if you use a fancy font and it's not crooked. I printed the addresses on the envelopes I used when I mailed out resumes, and it was easy once I figured out the spacing -- I just used Microsoft Word.

I know I'm going to get attacked for this but I don't think labels look as formal -- the ones I've seen on invitations remind me of junk mail, but it's possible they could look pretty if done nicely. I've never seen labels used on wedding invites or any other invites. Most people won't notice.

No one should attack anyone - its your personal preference that you don't like the print out labels.

Those are really nice! Your envelopes are going to look gorgeous!
