After my CPA exam, I plan on teaching myself calligraphy. . .I like hobbies

If I get good enough at it, I'll attempt my own envelopes

I have a book if you want to borrow it!!!

Its okay, I've seen them at michael's and stuff too - are they easy to follow?

I think they are. It takes a while to write them all out tho. I don't know how many ppl you're inviting I know I have about 80 invites to do!

We ordered 200 invites

We're ultimately expecting ~ 230 people (lots of OOTers) and many of our guests are single or couples (no big families on one invite).

I have nice handwriting but I think if I did it myself it would just be too much, and I'd worry about writing them crookedly or making a mistake. Or getting a hand cramp

Hand cramps are defineteley an issue

There is a template that you can put in the envelope so they won't be crooked. It isn't horrible!

I'll definitely check that out I probably have around 160 envelopes to address but if i give myself lots of time to do it, I'll be okay.

WOW 200 invites for 230 people, are alot single?

because i am ordering 125-150 invites for about 300 ppl...I go down my list and will count exactly how many ill have to send out depending on couples and so on...when i ordered my eparty invites at first i almost ordered as many invites as guests im having until i was like OH NO wait theres many couples and they get 1 so almost cuts down in half the amount of invites compared to number of guests

Re: How many of you girls are doing calligraphy?

I'm doing my own calligraphy using slanted-tip waterproof calligraphy markers from AC Moore. You can find them on the aisle with the real calligraphy pens (wish I knew how to use those!!).

I can't find my original post about this, but I replied to another bride with detailed instructions on how to do the calligraphy yourself. I think it's somewhere on the DIY board. Since I can't find it, here's what I did:

Print out several different fonts that you like and that you can duplicate by hand. I printed them like this: Aa Bb Cc and so on. Numbers too. That way you can have a sample of every single letter as a guide.

Hold the slanted-tip marker at a 45 degree angle and practice on blank sheets of paper with a lined paper underneath. Don't twist the marker at all, always keep it at the same angle, and that's how the thick and thin parts of each letter appear.

Your invitations should come with a lined cardstock guide to slip into the envelope, but if you don't have that available yet, use a ruler to draw a few parallel lines on blank paper, similar to the height between each line that you're going to need for the envelopes. I don't follow the fonts exactly.... in other words, if I like the letter A from one font, and the letter C from another font, as long as they sort of look related to the same typeface, use whichever works for you.

I did my sister's invitations a few years ago and they came out really nice..... just very time consuming, so leave a lot of time if you're doing them all by hand. Also have extra envelopes for those inevitable mistakes.

I'm doing them by hand for my own wedding, just because I like the look of it and I use calligraphy a lot at work, writing my kids' names and such in the classroom, so I'm used to doing this. If you choose to do them by hand and need any advice, FM me! Good luck!!

I think we're inviting around 300ish, but we're only expecting to end up with around 230 because a lot of them are friends of ours who live OOT and might not be able to make the trip. Also, many of our friends are single. We ordered 200 so we'd have a few extras for pictures, to frame, etc and just in case we forgot anyone.

Edit: when I say OOT I mean Chicago, St. Louis, Texas, Virginia, Florida, California, etc.... not NJ, CT, NYC. We have friends who live there too, but lot sof our OOTers would need to fly and book a hotel. We'd love for them all to come though! It will be interesting to see which do

i think ettiquette wise you should never use labels. IMO you should always hand write OR do digital calligraphy. labels sort of take away the personal feeling with the invite

i dunno if there are different forms of it, but you have the envelopes individually printed in a calligraphy font. you can do it on most inkjets. i know a few vendors do it at a steal, exquisite affairs does for practically nothing
