How Many Readings at Church?

Is there a limit on how many readings we can have? Would love to have 3 or 4, to be able to include more friends/family. We have people bringing up gifts, but how else can we include?

I think 2 is the norm. Maybe you can have someone read a short prayer...or do you have any singers? They can sing a song at the ceremony?

My sister's wedding I went to recently had 2 readings.

there are 2 readings, but you can also use someone to do the intercessions (we pray for........response - usually Lord hear our prayer) during a normal catholic mass, this part would follow the homily then the creed. the creed might be omitted during a nuptial mass - it's up to the couple and the priest

if you are doing intercessions, you can have more than one person read them. this can be a good way to include another person. i wouldnt go overboard tho. but i was thinkin of maybe the two moms doing this.

although i think my mom already said no thank you

Thanks ladies - I am thinking 2 readings (so 2 friends/family), 1 for general intercessions, and then 2 people bring up gifts. We have people who THINK they can sing, but probably not the best idea!

2 reading and a responsorial (spelt wrong) psalm....so 3 people all together...i think that's the norm.

I'm assuming you are talking about Catholic church?? In that case, they are almost always very strict about there only being 2 readings one Old Testament, one New Testament... then of course the Gospel which only the priest or deacon may read). However, like others have said, you can ask people to do other things in leu of more readings.
