How many RHs did you visit?

Original post by mls282

So I am going through my list and I keep adding and taking one's off. Mind you I haven't visited a single one. I will only be on Long Island 3 days... and so far my list is at 23 reception halls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I was just curious.... How many did you visit before you decided on the one?

Me too, I live out of state, so I had to rely on memory of past weddings, but I had a general idea of what I was looking for and what I wanted to spend. so to answer your ?, i really only looked at 2!

I only went to ONE place. I knew the style of the reception hall I wanted and what we were looking to pay per person. I knew as soon as I looked around it was exactly what I wanted.

Re: How many RHs did you visit?

Thanks for all the tips. I should probably just start with my top choices and go from there. Its hard to tell from only seeing websites.... but I would say my top one's are:
1.Venetian Yacht Club
2. Leonard's
3. Chateu Le Mer
4. Jericho Terrace
5. Inn at New Hyde Park
6. Chateu Briand
7. Swan Club
8. Woodbury CC
9. Giorgios

9 ..... now thats more manageable... I think. 9 in 3 days.... 3 a day.... not so bad :)

I saw about 7. It wasn't until the second or third place did we really start to realize what we were looking for.

2, but we have been to so many weddings, parties and work events at lots of places on Long Island so we knew what we liked.

We looked at: Ariana Waterfalls, Manor East, Westbury Manor, Holiday inn in Plainview, Leonards, Chateau La Mer, Antun's, The Sterling, Chateau Briand, Fox Hollow, Cresthollow, The Carltun, KoF Seaford, The Riviera, The Sand Castle, Swan Club, & Verdi's.... so 17...

the last one we went to Jericho Terrace was the one we choose! So it took 18 halls for us to find the perfect one!

We looked at seven: The Swan Club, San Sousci, Westbury Manor, The Fox Hollow, The Harbour Club and one other that is escaping me. The Fox Hollow was the last one and we knew right away!

Re: How many RHs did you visit?

After seeing about 8 very different Reception Halls in Brooklyn and Long Island, and literally throwing up in one, I decided really I didn't want a reception hall.

Then went through about 3 lofts online, that where affordable and looked decent. They were booked.

Then started exploring the city's Botanical Gardens, Parks, etc. Either booked, overpriced, dirty, not private, or food wasn't great.

I then contacted about 20 vineyards, the best were booked. The second best were unnecessarily overpriced. I visited about 8 only view from the car (dull and ugly), half only that I went in and looked around... negotiated... 1 fit the bill, and fit me. They didn't make me buy wine, they didn't make me use their caterer, they didn't make me do anything, but pay 3 grand to guarantee me that I would be the only event that weekend... and I was sold! Of course I have to rent everything, find a caterer, drag all my vendors out to middle of nowhere, but seriously worth it for me, cause I hated everything.

I think it depends on your personality, I really needed to have the best I could have for me.

I thought about doing it arboretum and some other places.... but you have to do everything. It requires sooo much more work and sooo many more things can go wrong. I am also planning from out of town so I would probably have a heart attack and never make to wedding day. I think its great to just do it completely your own from scratch but right now that wouldn't work for me... but I totally understand what you mean. I want the best for me too... the best RH...LOL! If I can get that I will be happy :)
Thanks!

I visited 8. I had a huge list at the beginning but narrowed it down with things I didn't want (I knew I wanted to be the only bride so that crossed a bunch off). Good luck!

Every now and then when things get difficult and stressful, I start wondering if I made a good decision about not using a RH. Trust me my life would be so much easier right now, if I would have settled. I drive 2 hours to my venue at least once a month. It feels like destination wedding, I could not imagine doing it from OOT!

I know... but thats why I decided to rule out the whole doing it from scratch. I almost went for a out door site and then rent the tent and EVERYTHING else.... and then I realized it would be way more stress than it is worth. LOL!

So the RHs are already starting to merge together. Which ones of these are only 1 wedding at a time???

1.Venetian Yacht Club
2. Leonard's
3. Chateu Le Mer
4. Jericho Terrace
5. Inn at New Hyde Park
6. Chateu Briand
7. Swan Club
8. Woodbury CC
9. Giorgios
10. Window's on the Lake
11. Fox Hollow Inn
12. Westbury Manor
13. Sans Souci
14. Hamlet Wind Watch

Sorry I am lost... my head is spinning already

Re: How many RHs did you visit?

Oh my- you need to narrow down a bit. I too am planning a wedding from out of state. We did 5 places in 2 days. If you have appointments at all of them, it will probably take an hour an each. They showed us around the facility then sat down and reviewed menus, prices and showed us pictures. One place we went was the Majestic Gardens. The inside wasn't over the top but the outside was gorgeous! We didn't choose it b/c we wanted to stay a little closer to Nassau County.

With that said when i came back to TX I felt like I had not seen enough places. Luckily the place we wanted called us back w/ exactly what we were looking for! So I didn't have to fly back in.

So in my opinion maybe a little more than us, but def. less than the amoutn you have listed. Hope that helps:)

WCC holds 2 events at a time, BUT they stagger their events by an hour and a half, so you NEVER even know there's another party going on. Trust me!! We had absolutely no idea there were other people in the hall! The 2 reception rooms are on separate floors, and they each have their own bathrooms, so you never run into guests from the other events.
