So I am going through my list and I keep adding and taking one's off. Mind you I haven't visited a single one. I will only be on Long Island 3 days... and so far my list is at 23 reception halls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I was just curious.... How many did you visit before you decided on the one?

just two--The Metropolitan and The Woodlands....was going to see the Crest Hollow but we got a great deal at The Woodlands so we just stopped looking after that

I seriously think we saw every reception hall on LI and those we didn't go see is because we had been to weddings there.
Here is the best way to narrow it down -
1. Guest List 2. Budget 3. Will you only go to a place that does one wedding at a time? 4. Do you have to be on the water?
These questions will help narrow your search.
Space was our biggest issue. With over 300 there were many places that I loved that just didn't fit us.
FYI - If you are not into florals skip East Wind -- the room you would be in is very country floraly decor.

Well.... right now I visited 7 RH's and am pretty much over it. Only 1 really stood out. I have one more I want to see. Imay end up changing my original day I have it so that I can afford the one I am leaning toward. I know what you ladies mean now after 5 in one day they all started blending together....LOL!

I saw 2 and went with my second. I just knew when I walked in! Funny cuz I didn't just 'know' when it came to my dress until after I ordered it and went back to try it on recently.

I had appts for four (Giorgio's, Watermill, Vineyard Caterers, and Chateau La Mer). Giorgio's was first. George Sr.'s nephew has been friends with my dad for 25 years and he gave us a great price and we loved everything about it, and loved that there is only one wedding at a time, and felt they actually cared about us- we wern't just a number.
We booked on the spot! We went to watermill after just for fun but we were not impressed. We cancelled the other two appts. :)

we had the same problem since we live in FL....so we had to do it like bang bang bang! i did a lot of research and then went from there. We looked at CLM, VYC, Lands End and picked from there since they were on the water close to my moms home and were what we were looking for...we chose VYC

We saw 13 & choose the last one we saw, Larkfield Manor, they are great to us & we could'nt leave a deal like that behind!

Okay, first let me preface this by saying that we looked not only on Long Island, but also in Westchester, Connecticut and New Jersey. By we 'saw' 47 RHs. I saw 'saw' because there were a few that we drove up to and turned right back around because we knew they didn't work for us. We were coming out of the city, so we'd rent a car with navigation and see a ton each day. We saw as many as 8 or 9 in one day. Land's End was the second-to-last place we saw on what we had decided would be our last day of looking.
We actually have a binder with detailed notes on each hall. I was thinking that I should turn in to a book and try to sell it!

So I ended up visiting a total of 7... instead of the original 20 I listed. I did 6 my first day and 1 the next day. Some places were already completely booked for next summer so I ruled those out (like Giorgio's). My mother had visited 4 for me but they weren't what I was looking for. I ended up go right back to the first place I looked at CLM and negotiating with them. I am just waiting for the contract to sign... YAY!!!

I visited four ... and then I knew what I wanted as soon as I saw it. Mind you, you should give yourself at least 1-1/12 at each place and include travel time. I dont think you can do all 23 in 3 days

My mom and I went to three. FH didn't come to any appointments lol. We went to Giorgio's first and I fell in love. I knew the wedding was going to be there we just went to see what other RH's offered and looked like in person. After we went to the third we didn't need to look any further! I am so glad I chose Giorgio's!

DH was the really picky one in regards to where our RH was. We looked at 15 places!
seriously, its hard to look at 23 places in just three days... you would have to give two hours for each place and also estimate travel time...
to help you cut down on your list, if you have a specific date in mind you can call them now to ask if its even available... also think of a price range that you want to stick with and you can cut some off the list if they are too much.
I highly highly recommend North Ritz Club in Syosset, they only hold one wedding at a time and the place is beautiful, all of our guests RAVED about the food!
